Postscript on the Aaliyah Chavez 50-point performance.

She was 19-38 from the field, finishing 11 for her last 15 including 4-5 from three. She hit 8 threes total.

A quote from the opposing coach:

No argument from James, a former Monterey assistant who witnessed Chavez’s evolution as she made her way through middle school.

“We sent two defenders at her the entire night, and it didn’t matter,” she said. “When a kid can hit shots like she does with two defenders on her consistently, you start from scratch and try to figure out something different. She’s a phenomenal player with a phenomenal shot and has spent a ton of time in the gym to be able to play the way she does. She has also developed a killer instinct and knows how to step up and take a game over.”

Isuneh “Ice” Brady, one of UConn’s two signees in the class of 2022, was in attendance with her high school team from San Diego, Cathedral Catholic. Brady and her team were participating in Hoophall in Springfield this week.

Auriemma said he liked what he saw from the 6-3 post.

“She looked a lot better than she did this summer,” Auriemma said. “She’s a terrific shooter from the perimeter. She’s a really good passer. She really understands the game a little bit. She moves with a purpose. There’s no awkward steps in the way she plays. And she competes. Her conditioning’s got to get better, like every high school kid. So by the end of June, that kid’s going to help us a lot next year. A lot. A lot. She’s got a great way about her.”

Dunmore's postponed game against top-25 St John Vianny took place today and Dunmore was shredded, down 30 at one point.

Just 9 points for Ciera Toomey.

No shame in that because St John Vianney is a stacked team. They have a pair of top 40 kids Madison St. Rose heading to Princeton and Zoe Brooks formerly of Trenton Catholic with De Rosario. Brooks has/had interest from South Carolina.

Yup can see her at the elbow and they will not be standing 7 feet away from her. She can shoot from the area and that will open the inside for Geno's offense. I think it is a great recruit. Can she set a good pick is the question? I would think so.

KK Arnold: 31 points (14-18 FG, 0-4 3-PT, 3-3 FT), 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 steals

The broadcast from this game was cut at the beginning due to technical issues. KK didn't play the last 12+ minutes of the game in compiling the above stats which included a school record for 2-pt FG shooting (14-14).

The truncated video has to be viewed at YouTube for some reason so click on the link below.

Question on Ashlynn Shade- when does ESPN show her in 2023 recruiting as a UConn commit? Does she have to sign a letter of intent first?

Olivia Olson will be in Eugene for the Oregon-UConn game as well as two other recruits per reliable Oregon sources.
Are those high school players going to be there because UConn is recruiting them, or because Oregon is? Or maybe both?

Both. Olson HS class of 24 specifically is getting an early start and has already visited some schools including Iowa.
Cunningham '23 has also visited Oregon is former HS teammates with current Oregon Pao Pao, and Has UCONN and Oregon in her top list.

BTW, in that video on Toomey above she mentions her biggest improvements have come in dealing with contact and that she avoided it as much as possible in years past. Brings back stark memories of Breanna early on in her UConn career. And it's no surprise that in her game yesterday where she scored just 9 points that one tweet mentioned St John Vianny was very physical with her, fouling her 4-5 times early on. Think that's what she's going to face at the beginning of her college career. Hopefully Geno can use Breanna as an example for her.

She spent two days at Oregon State and two days at Oregon. That is all I know.
