The Bear on FX/Hulu. I am only three episodes in, but this show is AWESOME. It stars Jeremey Allen White (Lip from Shameless), who plays a similar character to the one he played in Shameless. The show is about a sandwich shop in Chicago run by Carmen (Jeremey Allen White) and Richard (awesomely played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Ayo Edebiri plays a GenZ know-it-all that can barely hold her stuff together. The show is funny and intelligent and stressful to watch. It does a deep dive into the food service industry, making it look awful to be in but also interesting to watch. All the characters are interesting. An inspector spends 3 minutes on screen and you wonder what her backstory is.

It is incredible. I have one recommendation though: Don't binge watch it. Let each episode stand on its own, and absorb the story and characters, and think about it for a day or two. The show is that good.

Terminal List. Prime. Chris Pratt. So, 5 episodes in and I enjoy this. Won't say much because you don't want spoilers for this. Much of the enjoyment is that you and the characters don't really know what's going on, and sometimes what is real or not. Pieces unravel from different angles. Of course, the answer is somewhat of the current standard formula. Enjoying it so far. Riley Keogh plays Pratt's wife and is the granddaughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley (and is quite attractive).

Season 4 of Stranger Things is missing something, which I can’t pinpoint through 5 episodes. It just isn’t as much fun. A show with plot lines this ridiculous needs to have a little more fun to it or it starts to feel like a chore.
I'd have to go back and watch it over, but it feels like season 4 is more of an action film than the fun nostalgia with occasional action in season 1 and 2, at least. I enjoyed it, but it seemed to squeeze out some of the fun for action and gore.

Of course Rotten Tomatoes and Meta Critic hated it, but I rarely agree with them. Just finished the 3rd episode of 10. After this they will come out once a week. Giovani Ribisi is also excellent as Joe Columbo. One part funny and one part menacing.
I probably already said this multiple times, but metacritic and RT both use a similar algorithm for their "cRiTic rEviEw" composite. Ignore them. The audience number is teh one that matters. For The Offer that's 97%. I'd believe that for sure.

Watched all six episodes of The G Word (Netflix). I usually like "Mythbusters" kind of stuff and occasionally watched "Adam Ruins Everything" for that reason. The G Word is basically "Adam Ruins Everything" with Adam Conover doing his shtick (which can get annoying) on what the government gets right, what it gets wrong, and how it gets out of control.
LOL!!! I may have to watch to see what they think the government actually gets right. That should be news.

Umbrella Academy. i was afraid season 3 might get bogged down in the Ellen/Elliott Page thing but the plot seems to be moving through it without dragging it out. I’m not exactly binge watching since I’m only three episodes in but so far the series doesn’t seem to be taking itself too seriously. The Sparrow Academy is a good left turn inthe plot that I’m enjoying.

I take it you're not retired yet. Couple of big things they do very well.

I've done a sampler of several things from Netflix today. The one that stood out is "This is Pop." I skipped forward to the episode about the massive influence Sweden has had on music ever since ABBA. Interesting and informative.

LOVE this show!! Lip Gallagher lives!!!! But here, Carmy is not a sex fiend alchy.

He becomes a top chef of a top restaurant. His estranged brother kills himself and bequeaths Carmy the family beef sandwich shop. A real hole with a staff that is entrenched in its neighborhood roots and dirty routine.

Well, in comes Carmy inheriting all of the restaurants problems. He decides the menu needs freshness, the kitchen needs order and the friction begins. Especially from his cousin, excellently portrayed by Ebon Moss Bachrach. Great ensemble cast. The machine fixer guy is hysterical...played by Matty Matheson, an actual chef and personality.

Oliver Platt appears in a few episodes.

A great watch.

One question...how were those tomato cans ignored for so long? There were so many. I think I remember a scene where maybe Carmy saw them and turned his nose at them?

That might be the issue. It was exciting to watch, but Season 4 was a little more about action stuff happening and less about the characters than it had been in prior seasons.

Just started it.

As a former cafe owner, I would fired Tina within 48 hours and locked the cousin in the freezer. But I'm temperamental like that.

One question that stood out like a sore thumb: How come none of the parents noticed their kids were passed out on the lawn?

I've been enjoying Anne Winters as a new member of the cast on The Orville this season. Found a Netflix series she was in, Zac and Mia. Episodes are short and there were only 6 in Season 1, so I blasted thru that last night. I read some reviews that were critical of it because some of the medical parts of it weren't accurate, but if you can put that aside I thought it was well done. Maybe a bit melodramatic, but moving, with a number of good performances, including Winters. She is Mia. She and Zac meet because they are both in patient in a hospital for cancer treatment. They clash at first but that quickly changes.

Speaking of The Orville, caught up on the latest 2 episodes. One had to do with time travel and the serious repercussions that can occur. Leighton Meester made a guest appearance, always nice to see her. Quite a bit of this season has been focused on the head Dr., and I just don't find her character particularly interesting. Also, apparently you just can't date a Xelayan (both of the security chiefs from the show) if you aren't one yourself, because they are just too strong and you will sustain multiple serious accidental injuries while engaging in amorous activities.

The Bear was greenlit for season 2. Not sure how they can improve upon Season 1 but it will be there.
Started watching Under The Banner Of Heaven on Hulu. Goes deep into LDS culture. 2 episodes in. Slow build and getting better

She’s a welcome addition. But in the first I episode I said “she’s really cute, is Seth dating her.” Yep. Just like the last one. I give them some credit, they have tackled a bunch of current “issues” and in each case in a way that doesn’t preach and shows multiple perspectives.

I'm trying to get through season 3 and agree they did a good job of keeping the Page thing from blowing up. When you are dealing with Sci Fi and Fantasy and people have all sorts of supernatural powers, gender identity changing doesn't seem out of the ordinary or so odd you have to focus on it.

I did finally binge on the rest of the episodes yesterday. The series hasn’t lost any steam. Can’t wait for season 4

James May: Our Man in Italy. Prime. For any fans of Top Gear and Grand Tour, James May needs no introduction. All three presenters make their own shows, but with the possible exception of Clarkson's Farm, James May is by far the best at it. He did a travel related show about Japan a couple years ago and it was very good. This one is just as good if not better. He doesn't take the Rick Steeves approach, but instead gets more immersive with the culture and history. It's more entertaining. He's really very good at this. His wine show with Oz Clarke was also very good.

Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives. Netflix.

My sister-in-law is one of those ingratiating vegans who scoff at any usage of animal products, so the title enticed me as a potential big middle finger to that forceful attitude.

Part restaurant documentary, part psychological analysis of restauranteur Sarma Melngailis and the brain washing by her career criminal husband. Their combined ability to cipher millions of dollars from her famed vegan restaurant Pure Food and Wine led them a life on the run, from casino to casino.

Even weirder is that the husband was a self-proclaimed deity from other life dimensions, promising Sarma and her dog immortality.

Not my typical style of TV, but it was interesting and the storyline never bored me across its ~3.5 hour run time across four episodes. We watched one episode per day, but I can see the appeal of watching this in one extended view.

If you have any interest in the restaurant business or psychological case studies, then definitely check it out.

I'm still in sample mode after recently getting Netflix streaming again, so I'm kinda all over the place. Watched 2 episodes of "Love on the Spectrum" last night. Interesting and enjoyable. Dating can be complicated and stressful for everybody. Maybe a bit more so for neuro atypicals. It's a documentary, the creators seem to be very sensitive in how they went about making the show. It gets really, really awkward at times, so this seems like a show I'll take in small portions rather than watching all at once, but I definitely plan to return to it.

Invincible. It is an extraordinarily dark animated superhero coming of age tv show.

The basic premise is not unlike Sky High. Teenage son of a superman like superhero wonders whether or not he is going to get his powers. Eventually, he does and hast to learn how to use them and how to be a superhero.

One of the things I liked about it is every show gets a little bit darker. That darkening of the show is mirrored and foreshadowed by the fact that the character‘s name “invincible “shows up at the start of every show with just a little more blood splattered on it. It is an extraordinarily violent show with some mature themes in it. Think of it as Saturday morning television on Meth.
