Maybe Cooley is just using this as leverage to get more out of Providence? Happens all the time in the real world, why can’t it be true in this case?
He does it every year but this is different. Providence needs to stop playing the hostage victim and tell him to get the hell out.

John Thompson and even his son are gone forever. So are the glory days of Georgetown Providence should move their campus to Newport and re-label themselves as "the Commodores" in honor of Cornelius Vanderbilt and his mansion in Newport called "The Breakers."
Salve Regina already owns that neighborhood. Sweet views over the Cliff Walk too. PeeCee should move over the border. I hear Fall River is nice this time of year.

Eventually PC will be paying Cooley a top 5 coaches salary and have zero results to show for it. This is their ceiling. Why pay a guy $6M/yr to lose 7 of your final 9 games when you could pay a solid mid major guy $2M/yr to do the same thing?

Is it just about the money for Cooley? I mean more money is nice but he chose a slimey way to get a raise by floating his name to Gtown and starting to pack up the office.

It is long past time for John Becker to get a better job. I expect he could match what Cooley has done.

Your comments reminded me of Syracuse and the powers that be behind the face of the team. What a mess. I don't see Cooley being any kind of savior for Georgetown. Especially if these same people who hired Ewing are running things behind the scene.
I don’t think he’s the answer at G’town either. As for your second thought, it’s been reported by many people in the know that Georgetown AD Lee Reed is heavily involved in the hiring of a new coach. He was completely excluded from giving input on the hiring of Ewing by the school president, board of trustees, JT3 and the Thompson family.

I’m so curious what happens if Cooley spurns GT and was really just leveraging them against PC for a raise. Has he irreparably harmed his relationship with the fanbase? Do PC fans get over it quick because they realize they’re a DePaul level bottom feeder without him?

It's ancient history if he stays.

I enjoy trolling Providence as much as the next guy, but I hope Cooley stays. Having a strong regional rival is a good thing for UConn, and Georgetown will be able to find another good coach to turn their program around.
A good Georgetown >>>>>>>> a good Providence College.

Georgetown made the NIT in 52-53 and again in 69-70. Thompson showed up in 72-73 and had a HOF run (including a Natty in 84) until 89-90. In five seasons Esherick made one sweet sixteen and no other trips to the NCAA. JT3 started strong with a Sweet Sixteen and Final Four in 06-07 before fading and missing the tourney in his last couple of years. Ewing had a pretty poor 6 years winning 75 and losing 109.

They are not exactly a blue blood. They are a solid program, coasting on Thompson legacy, nothing special, and lately Providence has been better.
Under JT3 they were pretty consistently a top team that brought in great talent. He had some BATTLES with Calhoun over the years. I still remember that game winning three mf ROY HIBBERT hit that one year.

They’re an original Big East power with all the money and recruiting footprint possible to get them back to that. Big upgrade from Providence who are pretty much at their ceiling now.

I believe college coaches more than politicians and lawyers. So if you tell us not to believe college coaches does that mean we should believe college coaches? This is a rhetorical question for the Boneyard non lawyer members.

I have spoken! This is the way!
Good for you. Do I need to quote Connecticut’s own P.T. Barnum to you?

Yes, they had 8 tourney appearances including a FF under him. Between him and his dad they are a blue blood.

This is University of Southern Canada-level delusion.
Why would anyone leave this situation for a short contract?
I mean like 3 years. I’d hate to lose him. Who gives a rookie a long term contract? Iona is a good first HC job for him and in his home area. I’m sure DH & RP will direct some recruits that don’t fit our level his way.

I really don’t care about Cooley… Pitino is the one that moves the needle for the big east…especially at St Johns.. that would be great for the big east.. I just hope Georgetown gets someone who can win.. which is also great for the big east… Cooley is alright… but nothing great
