Darn all of those BC fans who went to Yankee Stadium sitting in the BC section wearing blue and white to the game and made it so difficult to get an accurate count of BC's fan support at the game. Maybe they were Yankee fans from Boston? Would have helped a bit if they remembered that their school wore white with maroon an gold trim and note blue as they seems to cheer every time Penn St scored.

There can't be more than 5k BC fans there. There is no question that UCONN had more fans in our game against Army than BC brought with them for this game.
QUOTE]
I was at the game. BC sold out its allotment of tickets ( 7,000) 72 hours after the announcement that this was their Bowl Game. There were between 11-12,000 BC fans at the Bowl Game. The game was a sell out, 49,000 in Yankee Stadium. Yes, its true Penn State had a lot more fans in attendance than BC as they are a large state school, have a rich football tradition, and they are the only game in town in that neck of the woods of rural Pa. So thats no surprise. But the notion that there were only " 5,000 BC fans in attendance " is inaccurate, and so I just wanted to point this out. For reference purposes, Uconn has never sent over 10,000 to any Bowl Game. The Fiesta Bowl game, their biggest game, sold 4,000 Uconn tickets of the 17,500 allotted. The school lost money on the game. I'm sure unbiased Uconn fans here are aware of this. So while its understandable to have either envy or hate for BC, it needs to be grounded in some reality to have sway outside of the Uconn bubble world, it would seem to me

It was a great game,.. sold out Yankee Stadium,.. national prime time TV, and network advertisers love OT games. BC made too many mistakes in this one, and Penn State made an extra point that BC's frosh extra point specialist shanked in OT, and so that was the final difference. But it was a very entertaining Bowl Game, one of the best so far, imo.

Actually, UCONN sold less than 3K to the Fiesta Bowl through the school. OU sold 5,500. Both sidelines were packed to the 3rd deck with their fans (take a look at the pics taken from the game that I posted in this thread: http://the-boneyard.com/threads/acc-vs-big-ten-lets-hear-the-excuses.70125/page-2). OU lost money on the game too but that didn't receive national news because the B12 covers their member's losses for bowl games. If you want to continue to think that there were 3-4K UCONN fans at the Fiesta Bowl, then that's on you.

UCONN had more fans for a meaningless garbage game against Army this year than BC had for a bowl game. UCONN also brought 7-8K to a regular season basketball game! Tremendous support.

As for other bowl games that UCONN has played in:

Motor City Bowl - 6-10K http://www.boston.com/sports/articles/2004/12/27/uconn_fans_becoming_bowl_savvy/
Meineke Car Care - 15+K http://www.uconnhuskies.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/122607aab.html
International Bowl - 5-10K (attendance was announced at 40K and Buffalo had ~25K)
Papa Johns - 5-7K (not a good showing here)
Fiesta - 15K (StubHub is a wonderful thing)

Uconn football would be expected to have more football fans. It has more Alums than BC has, of course.. It has more Alums that stay in the state of Connecticut too after graduation, than BC has that stay in New England after graduation, and Uconn is a state public school. The states Flagship Public. It also has no pro team competition in its state too, of course. BC is a small, private, Catholic Univ. It could go undefeated in football, and still not outdraw... for example...Iowa in football attendance. Areas that are rural, or predominently fly over country, or are state publics with no pro franchises interested in their locales, routinely outdraw the Privates. For just one example, even when the Miami Hurricanes were winning National Championships in football ( or competing for one ) they rarely sold out their home games. Thats no surprise, either of course. Miami is a private school, located in a Pro town. Even when the Miami Dolphins are terrible, they still extract all the oxygen in the room away from the amateur college football Miami Hurricanes, and outdraw the Hurricanes. And if you've been to Penn State for a game ( as I have ), you know that Penn State football is all there is in this neck of the woods. Right from your seat you can see the cows lazily meandering in the cow pasture that surround the stadium there. There is really nothing else to do there, but follow their football team. Its a positively beautiful area area, imo... but positively boring to stay there for more than a couple of days. Which is a credit to the sports fans there for being creative in finding something to do in that rural area of Pennsylvania in their Fall.

Let me help you out with the "Reply" function, since you're obviously too stupid to figure it out.

UConn has at least twice sent more than 10,000 fans to a bowl game - to Charlotte in 2007 and to Glendale in 2010. For reference purposes, you're an idiot.

Its a shame you decided to engage in a personal insult, as I have not done that here with you. But that says more about you than me, imo... but whatever. ( I also said BC had 11-12, ooo at their Bowl Game this year ) more than 3 times what the Uconn poster said above.( who wasn't at the game.. as I was ). Perhaps we can meet a mutual understanding that BC has a football program that would welcome a much larger fan base, and Uconn has a larger fan base that would welcome a much better football program. Is that fair enough for you now ?

Again, no they didn't. Anyone who was there knows differently 8k max. The two highlighted sections were majority BC, not 100% but over half. The LF Bleacher were all BC, and two small sections behind home plate were BC. The rest of the building was for PSU by heavy 9:1 margin. The upper deck was very heavy for PSU. Unless of course BC fans don't cheer for BC touchdowns. 8k is a good showing for any bowl game these days.

Not really. BC sold 10,000 tickets before the game. There were between 11-12, ooo BC fans in attendance. BC sold out its allotment of 10,,000 tickets within 72 hours of their becoming available. The claim that only 5-8,000 showed up, would naturally mean that between 2,000 and 5,000 ( 50% ? ) who bought tickets before the game did not show up for the game. With tickets over 100 bucks a ticket, thats simply not credible. Penn State, as expected and to noone's surprise had far, far more fans in attendance than did BC. But BC had more than 8,000 fans at this game my friend. I would know. I was there.

I was there too. 20-25% bc (10-12k) seems about right.

I was surprised it was a sellout, as I could see a bunch of empty seats, including one section behind home plate at ground level that was nearly empty for much of the game.

Yes, I did notice that one section too at kickoff, and throughout the game it was empty for the most part of any fans at all. This Bowl did hope to sell out the game at Yankee Stadium, and to their credit they did. And this was well before anybody knew what the weather would be for this game the end of December too. But the weather turned out about as well as one could hope for for this late in the year in the northeast. By the way, on the whole, Penn State football fans are great people, imo. Like most fan bases, they are far far better than what we generally get on these anonymous college football message boards. I've been to Penn State for a game, and its a great experience. For one, they have some of the best ice cream served at their games this side of Brighams, imo... no kidding.. Penn State seemed to me to be a boring place to live, imo, but its a great venue for a College Football game, and they do have a great and large football fan base there.

Well, everyone does like a winner.
Penn State has a larger football fan base than either BC or Uconn could ever dream of having. Penn State fans supported their program thru the worst of times lately. So their football fans turn out in good numbers that has nothing at all to do with " liking a winner ". They are not bandwagoners at all. ( some of this has to do with nothing else to do in that neck of the woods, of course.. but still in all, they do support their football program even when they lose, or they are in great turmoil or in flux. )

I texted a buddy of mine who was there with his brother, a PSU alum. I asked about the turnout. His exact reply:

"So lopsided. Like 8-1 PSU."

He might've been having too much holiday styled egg nog if he told you that. This " 8-1 " ratio, and as another poster said " 9-1 ratio ", is just plain silly. The game was a sell out at 49,000. I 'd say approx 2,000 or so were no shows for one reason or another. About 3,000 or so can be expected to be New Yorkers just out for the evening game in their area. This leaves approx 44,ooo fans to be divided up between BC and Penn State fans. From my vantage point in the stadium I 'd estimate between 11-12,000 ( conservatively ) were BC fans, and approx. 33,000 or so were Penn State fans. Penn State had more than double the number of BC fans easily, and in my estimation it was close to a 3-1 ratio, maybe even at a 3.5 -1 ratio. The storyline however that it was " 8-1 " or a " 9-1 " ratio is pure nonsense. To believe an " 8-1 ratio" would mean that more than 50% of the BC fans that bought the over 100 dollar per seat tickets did not attend the game, as BC sold out their allotment of 10,000 tickets 72 hours after the anouncement of the tickets becoming available. And nobody believes that over half the BC fans that bought tickets, stayed home. I estimated 11-12,000 were in attendance. My wife and a few other BC fans in attendance I spoke with believe it was closer to 14- 15 ,000 BC fans in attendance. I don't think so however. The fact that Penn State had a great turnout for this football game does not mean that BC had a poor turnout. BC had a very good turnout for this game as a matter of fact. The game itself was a sell out and a quick sellout. Penn State has one of the largest fan bases in all of college football, and as expected showed up in numbers expected, imo. What was encouraging for BC however was the 11-15,000 fans that BC brought to their Bowl Game this season. That was not quite as expected.

Does anyone at BC ever get a job? I mean, who has time to post that much drivel?

I'm only half kidding.
