Tom Coughlin stepped down as Giant's head coach after 12 years and 2 Super Bowl victories. Haven't made the playoffs in a few years, but you have to applaud his efforts as a head coach.

I am not a fan of the G-Men; but, he was a class act from what I saw on the field and the few times I ran into him going about my day in North Jersey. While it was his time to step aside, my deepest thanks for beating Kraft's Belichick's teams twice in the Super Bowl.

As a long time die hard NYG fan...this absolutely sucks. I know they haven't been in the playoffs for 4 years; BUT when the roster given to you by your GM; where on Sunday only 14 of the 46 active players were NYG draft picks (half of the 14 were picked in the last 2 yrs and Hakeem Nicks really shouldn't count since he was picked up off the FA market a few weeks ago) you are fighting a battle you are set up to lose! If Mara and Tisch were gonna basically tell Coughlin he was done today (I don't buy the resigning bs)..then they should have FIRED Jerry Reese first! This bulls**t of the Giants not firing GM's is exactly that...COMPLETE and UTTER BULLS**T! What coach in their right mind won't take a second to say to themselves "what happens if Reese doesn't return after next season...where do I stand with a guy who didn't hire me?"..the beat guys who cover the NYG say that the coach and GM work for John Mara..and that he makes the decisions on the coach not the GM. I can vividly remember as a young kid when the NYG started to turn around under George Young and Ray Perkins. If Mara and Tisch don't replace Jerry Reese the days preceding Young & Perkins are right around the corner!

Nothing will ever change while Reese is still GM. It is a disgrace what he has done with the roster. It cost Tommy C his job and ruined 2 of Eli's best years.

Could be worse, could work for the Cleveland Browns, who are cleaning house yet again, of the Niners who are squarely placing the blame of a 5 and 11 campaign on the shoulders of a 1st year coach they hired who has no head coach now OC/DC experience instead of a GM (Baalke) and Owner who put together a roster than makes it a surprise actually won 5 games.

As a Jets fan, I assume Rule #1 always applies; but I like what Maccagnan as the GM and Bowles have done. They shoudl have made the playoffs; but the fact that they were in the running until the last game after a 4 and 12 season in 2014 makes me happy. I still think they are a few years away from being good (poor draft picks and FA signings under the prior regime); but, I like the direction they are going in.

Jerry Reese should have been canned as well along with Mark Ross and the rest of the scouting department.

Agree, he took the fall for Jerry Reese's incompetence. Until Mara/Tisch replace the GM, I strongly suspect Big Blue will be Pale Blue. Will never forget Coughlin's refusal to wear any hat in the NFC Championship Game played in Green Bay in -30 below temps. He was a great football coach...Hall of Famer.

According to a few things I heard this morning, this was more a matter of Coughlin time for himself and his family than anything the Giants' front office wanted. Supposedly, if he wanted to return he would ne the head coach for at least 2016.

Some pundits mentioned last week that if the Giants wanted to keep Coughlin, they would also need to keep Reese, as a new GM would want to be the guy who selected the head coach. One thing this does is give the Giants the opportunity to change GM's (although I'm not sure they'll be too swift in doing that).

He's staying unfortunately.....from what Ralph Vacchiano from NY Daily News has said on twitter John Mara hires both the GM and Head Coach...they both work for him. They really need to fire Reese and his scouting staff...the numbers I put in my post above are absolutely pathetic.

Regardless of where the truth in the decision lies; he deserves to walk out on his own two feet, so if it was a team decision, I like the way they handled it. Agree that Reese should'nt go unnoticed off this season but who do yo blame for all the injurues...

Injuries or not..Reese left that roster seriously void of NFL caliber LB's and safeties. TE was also a joke...although I think Tye will be a keeper.

The Giants have been complaining the last three seasons about key injuries. And yes that's true. But last I checked a lot of other teams, playoff teams, have key injuries as well. What the injuries "excuse" says to me is a woeful lack of depth and talent, in large part due to the incompetence of GM Jerry Reese.

When was the last time he drafted a linebacker high in the draft...Never.
He has to stop drafting players based on potential and more on production. My guess is the Giant's won't improve until he is gone :(

The fact that Jerry Reese, who has the worst drafting record in the history of the NFL, is not fired is an absolute disgrace. Get him the hell out of NY.

Except the Giants have had the most injuries (in lost games) of any NFL team in both 2013 and 2014.

And it's tough to make the argument that Reese didn't supply talent under even these extraordinary circumstance as the Giants have been very competitive, being ahead or tied into the last two minutes of double digit games in 2015.

Are you kidding me...why don't you open up the link I put up about his draft record...it is absolutely horrible! If you are a NYG fan who actually knows football then you will realize the roster SUCKS and contains 3 NFL caliber lbs and safeties on it! But keep posting that Jerry Reese is a good GM..it just reinforces how
Ignorant you truly are when it comes to football!

I nominate @Palatine for moron post of the year for 2016 for his last 2 posts about the NYG! Although they will most likely be trumped by later posts in this thread!

Actually, he is in the middle of the pack currently. And your comment was that Reese has "the worst drafting record in the history of the NFL." That's not just hyperbole, it's insanity. He's not even the worst Giants GM.

Just picking Beckham takes him off that list. LOL.

I didn't make the comment about him having the "worst drafting record in the history of the NFL"...go and read the posts again. Not talking about him as the worst GM..he is the GM the Giants have right now and he owns this mess..lock stock and barrel. From the 2009 draft to 2015 draft the NY Giants(Jerry Reese and the staff HE is in charge of) have made 51 draft picks...24 of those picks are still with the team..13 of those 24 are from the 2014 and 2015 draft.

Contrary to your post @Palatine the NFL isn't fantasy football..so what he drafted OBJ...at least 2/3 of his draft picks aren't even in the NFL anymore. He has crippled this team with his drafts since 2009. Throw in 2008 and 7 of the 7 draft picks he made are out of the NFL never mind being on the NYG roster! He definitely isn't in the middle of the pack draft success wise.he is in the bottom 1/3. He is the reason the NYG suck...don't even go there with his f/a signings. SO next January they will be in the same spot..fighting for a playoff spot..having watched Reese spend $50 mill in F/A and have ZERO return..watching him again draft ZERO Lb's...it's a joke. And you sticking up for him proves what a moron you are. ..you don't have to swallow the conventional wisdom..just have some common sense and realize what reality is.
