And confirmed that he'll be deciding in the spring.

Corey Evans on Rivals just put a crystal ball pick in for Arizona State on 9/27, the same day that Bobby Hurley hired Rasheen Davis.

Who is Rasheen Davis?

Was an assistant at UMass before ASU. Also has worked at VCU, Xavier and a few more. He’s from NY and is well respected around New York and New Jersey, a perfect fit with Bobby.

I believe he also coached at Rice High School while Kemba was there.

Bottom line to me is Hurley wants a Big to commit before the season. Thats been his goal for this cycle from the jump and then take his chances on transfers/JUCO if a third spot opens up. If Cliff is going to wait until spring to commit, then that's the ball game. Unless there has been a conversation in some room at some time making them feel that they aren't just 1 of 13 remaining schools and he is in, then you move on and sign the next Big on your depth chart. They will not watch Cardwell, JFB, etc go elsewhere on a "welp, you guys are cool, talk to you in the spring" type of deal.

I'd much rather grab Cardwell and have that done, now and have an actual, serviceable big to develop than wait to the Spring and do the whole 'eggs in one basket' thing and then end up tossing a scholy at a band aid for the next season/graduate student.

Cliff won't be the last really good big available. There will be more next year for sure. And Cardwell *does not suck*.
