Lots of restaurants but I'm not sure if it is a good fit given the tailgating traditions that have emerged at the Rent. It would give people options.

I know I'm in the minority but I think things like this and the proposed shopping center are good ideas. Let people plan their day in the area, with the highlight being the game for those of us that go.

I'm sitting in the parking lot now and the entire "silver lame corridor" is so defunct it's embarrassing. The town has stymied business by the virtue of its zoning board for years. They are still under the impression that this is a middle class town that doesn't need industry and business to grow its grand list. Maybe there's been some turnover.

For football purposes,it doesn't do anything. For reviving that dismal stretch on Silver lane, I think it would be fabulous.I'll believe it when I see it.

I agree it's six games a year. Really doesn't mean nothing to football in the grand scheme. But lets face it. We are in a unique situation where our FB team doesn't play on campus. For visiting fans attending a UConn game means you would have to go out of your way to see the campus. Developing that area somewhat could make the game day experience more fun, for those that want to do more than eat and drink before the game.

I've never been to a game at UCONN, but I have been to many, many stadiums and typically like to take in the campus and see what it has to offer. That said with The Rent being far removed from campus, and thus an unlikely destination for visiting fans, It would be pretty cool to have the stadium be the focal point of an entertainment district. Go to a game tailgate before and after. Go to dinner, hit the casino for a while, maybe see a band, and then crash at the casino's hotel. It would make for a fun weekend.

Hotel and bands? It's proposed to be in an old movie theatre.

In all fairness it does reference the casino having bars and clubs so bands aren't a stretch. I'm not familiar with the property or land surrounding it, so admittedly a hotel might be a reach.

It will probably happen but I can't see anything beyond the ridiculous casinos at Yonkers and Aquaduct.

Mohegan Sun's debt was straight up junk last time I checked. Who would lend them money to build a hotel?

The property is an abandoned Showcase Cinema and the area around it is marginally better than Detroit.

There can never be too many casinos

Well, that ain't true. Look at Atlantic City. I'm sure I'm not alone, I used to like to go play craps once in awhile. I can't remember when I've been to a casino to gamble. It has to be over 10 years. It's not a growth industry anymore.

Casinos are scared to death that Millenials aren't interested. They have been reduced to trying things like free throw shooting contests to try and bring them in.

Atlantic City's problems are far worse than to many casinos. Decades of poor management. Although, It needed another casino like I need another donut. I'm 50-50 on it... CT doesn't seem over saturated compared to even Eastern PA... but casino's don't tend to exactly improve the neighborhood their in, sometimes though, they can be a big plus.

In all seriousness, that little Patriot Place do-dag that the Kraft family has thrown up around Gillette is quite nice. First thing in its corner: they put in a Five Guys (always a favorite of mine). The Patriots HOF is also very nice. If UConn did something similar (think: visitors center dedicated to football history and throw a bit of basketball in there too for our out of town guests), I think it could be a hit. Plus CT people love shopping at outlet malls. Put a few of those up with some hotels and some restaurants (Five Guys!), then expand the Rent to 60K, and we have something marketable. Our "off campus" stadium is no longer a detriment, but now its a bit of an asset.

There's no need for a hotel, none.

But it's not even close to being as bad as Detroit. I know the area around the cinema very well. And I've been to Detroit 3 times. It's not even close to being as bad as Detroit. It's not even among the worst neighborhoods in a 20 mile radius. A kid was shot in the face in broad daylight a couple months ago in Hartford.

Unless and until the state allows them to open up sportsbooks, these things are probably going to continue to flop. If you could go bet on sports, the casinos would start turning a profit again.

Part of me wonders if the state is just waiting for few more casinos to open, fail miserably, then swoop in and buy them dirt cheap while "coincidentally" legalizing sports betting at the same time. Talk about "windfall" profits.

If you want to live in Minnesota, then move there. Even the "larger casinos" (I'm thinking specifically of Black Bear just south of Duluth, to say nothing of Fon-de-Luc in Downtown Duluth) are glorified slot parlors with a couple blackjack tables and maybe a small poker room, (if anything additional at all). They are truly awful environments.

I say this a someone who works less than 5 miles from Mohegan and, even on my days off, I'll drive down here and play poker for a few hours.

The Detroit part was a joke.

The state would be wise to legalize sports gambling but may as well let New Jersey fight the war for now.

Screw the casinos though they should run it themselves through the lottery terminals like Ontario.
