That's a solid list........Not at all a Gillette fan but only for principle reasons I will not get into.......Shenney is on the list I'm guessing purely because of the design and legacy but I wouldn't throw it near my Top 20......Since you jumped out of state for the The Ranch I would replace Shenney with Newport National........now if we go real far #1 and #2 would be Pine Hills Nicklaus and Jones!! And Waverly would sneak in as well as red Tail and Balckstone!! LOL.............and a sleeper in Kettlebrook.......

Gillette's overly penal, even with the revisions, and conditioning seems to get worse by the year, so its hanging on by a thread.

I do appreciate classic architecture, and Shenny's many quirky nuances suck me in.

Haven't played Waverly or Newport National, but Newport Nat'l and Granite Links top my to do list for Southern New England. Red Tail is great; FWIW, my Mass Top-10:

1. Red Tail
2. The Ranch
3. Pine Hills – Nicklaus
4. Pine Hills - Jones
5. Highland
6. Miacomet
7. Crestview
8. Blackstone National
9. Crumpin Fox
10. Shaker Hills

That's funny Rico........how is Oak Lane? Always see it off the Merritt and haven't played it since it became public........

It was ok. Nothing too memorable about it...not very many difficult shots. But it was in good shape, even for early April, and only cost me $24 for 18 with a cart after 3:00 on a Saturday, so for that price, definitely worth it.

I wonder if you could catch Jason Terry at one of the beautiful courses of Connecticut.

Gillette and Laurel View are owned / managed by the same guy.....lol.....

If I did I wouldn't get kicked off the course because of a cheap shot elbow that's for sure!!!.....;)

Wow a Knicks fan has resurfaced after 100 years asleep....pretty funny

Crestview is my hometown......it used to better now that it's public it's still a nice track and a test for your tee game.........Good Mass. list here but if we stretch New England even more we will need to throw Belgrade Lakes and Dunesgrass on it..........I would have it like this:

1. Belgrade Lakes
2. Pine Hills Nicklaus
3. Red Tail
4. The Ranch
5. Pine Hills Jones
6. Crumpin Fox
7. Dunesgrass
8. Waverly Oaks
9. Fox Hopyard
10.Granite Links.......must play

There was a quote by Jason Terry prior to game four where he said NY had too much firepower and that they had to find a way to take away one of their guns. I gotta give him credit, he went after the player with the lowest basketball awareness and IQ and baited him into doing something stupid. JR definitely connected on his chin, but Terry definitely fell like Mayweather caught him with an uppercut.

I have seen Granite Links by website only. Really $$$. Played 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9. Have a calendar with 1 on it. Looks nice. I thought Red Tail was associated with Ft. Devens? Looks like a trip for Shattuck and Red Tail.

68, if you can get a deal for Granite Links go for it........on top of an dump in Quincy with a view of Boston that is actually breathtaking........and the course is very nice also......27 holes I believe I only played 18...........

Shattuck is fun, prepare to lose a few balls unless you are on top of your game - is it still in good shape as i heard it was not getting much care?

Belgrade is tough to play because of the scenic piece......crazy beautiful and the holes are nice too!!

You're not kidding about it being a dump. When I lived in Quincy my backyard bordered on one of the holes. They didn't finish it till after I moved to Pgh. But there were numerous issues with the landfill leaching toxic stuff which stalled construction more than once. Nice to hear it's a decent course though. I used to play President most every night. That was a rough track... literally.

Grew up in Stamford/Norwalk so I thought everyone everywhere had to go into lotteries or sleep in their cars to get a decent tee time. Mass wasn't too bad, though I found many of the newer courses not worth the expense. Here in Pgh, there's plenty of good golf, some of it very reasonable, rarely a wait.

Sorry if I'm stupid but where is "Pgh"??

Western Mass is much easier to play and reasonably priced compared to many in Eastern Mass and the South Shore......Rhody too.......

Also, really need Lake of Isles here... if you haven't played it, it's a "must play". I've been fortunate enough to play there in 2 scrambles, but I'd love to play my own ball there. In my opinion, more difficult than the Pinehills courses, but every bit as nice. They have deals where you can stay for a night, get some casino credits, etc, for basically what greens fees are ($199 in summer).

Wow, so Oak lane and Woodbridge are both public now? Huh, how times have changed. How is Woodbridge holding up conditions wise since the change over?

It is hard for private clubs to stay afloat unless ultra exclusive. Society and family life of the under 40 set does do easily allow for getting away a few times a week for five hour clips to play golf, too much helicopter parenting to do. Interesting to see how many courses are around in 20 years.

My office overlooks the first tee at Gillette and I play there often because of convenience....but it really is not worth the money. It's not scenic....there are holes with views of Cottage Grove or the back of Starbucks. It's not all that well maintained either.

The course design is a challenge but for a fun round with mid handicappers, it sorta sucks. Rumor has it that Arnie Palmer played at the ribbon cutting once he designed one of the nines. In the clubhouse, he said "I didn't think I made it THAT hard".

Lehigh Valley. I'm about 40 minutes north of Philly I haven't played anything down near Philly. There's a Golden Oaks golf club pretty close to me. I haven't played it. I mainly play a course called Wedgewood 27 holes for next for $37 weekdays... $39 after noon on weekends.

One course near me, Butter Valley Golf Port, has small airport right in the middle of it. Which is pretty cool.

Yes it is Golden Oaks actually and it's not a bad course at all.......fun track. We stay at an Inn in Wyoming after and hit a bar in the Marriot which is always fun!!Beautiful area in the middle of nowhere LOL

The original was tough. They have smoothed it out a little (#3 and #4 especially), and moved the white tees up far enough that old guys can play it... most of it. Still a few 4s you need to play as 5s.

I live probably about 10 miles away from the course. I drive past it all the time in the winter though taking my kid to hockey in Reading. Middle of nowhere describes the area perfectly... Which is exactly why I live here. ;)

Lots of golf courses though. :D
