Carla Sofia Vietas Ferreira Da Silva, is someone for INES to recruit! Note the current
FIBA U 18 Women's Konya Turkey 2023 tournament (JULY 2023) which is entering the Round of 16.
Portugal , with 6 ' 6" Carla Da Silva leading the way is 3 -0 after winning Group A.
Portugal 66 Belgium 51 Ms. Da Silva 21 points 12 rebounds and 3 assists
Portugal 75 Italy 50 with Ms. Da Silva 25 points 11 rebounds and 4 assists
Portugal 70 Lithuania 47 Da Silva 20 points 10 rebounds with an of 18 and +/- of +12
She noted as a TOP PERFORMER on July 2 with an Efficiency rating of 35 and hitting 13 / 14 free throws ( 92.9%) !! 85.7 for the tournament.
For the First three games she is averaging: 22 points per game, 11 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists, and 2 block shots per game.
She is # 17 and if you want to look at the FIBA videos, she is the one with the LONG single Braid.
FYI: Carla is listed as 198 cm which converts to 6 feet and 5.928 inches (I would call that SIX FEET SIX!)
or skipping the inches that converts to 6. 49 feet = which is, of course, 6 and a half feet or SIX FEET SIX INCHES.
She has gotten better each year: see FIBA 2021, 2022. and the current tournament 2023
Her Birthday is May 31,, 2006 and she is 17 YOA. Why not a UCONN POI? She is one of mine, also one of INES's!!
Follow her on the FIBA videos FIBA BASKETBALL/Europe/ U 18 / 2023. Portugal next plays Poland in the Round of 16. ENJOY Z.

I’m not sure these two posts exactly agree about what is allowed in July. An evaluation period seems to allow for some contact according to the second on, and there’s three of those in July.

Does anyone know or understand the rational for how July is broke up between dead/evaluation/quiet?
I believe it’s chopped up to prevent young kids from playing in consecutive AAU tournaments for extended periods of time. The calendar is supposed to allay the stress of recruiting from young players

Someone on our staff was following her earlier. Either Morgan or CD. But seems like she found her groves with those stats.

Ahh thank you! That makes a lot of sense. I was truly confused.

Caller ID probably helps this situation as well perhaps?

Thank you Sluconn for all the work that you put into informing us on the recruiting activity and players of interest.

6’6” is great if she can play. I’m sure Geno will make contact during the team’s European trip in August. Probably 6’7” or 6’8” with sneakers, and who knows? Maybe she’s still growing.

On the plus side she is not a bad free throw shooter. She can make layups but not much else. If she continues to jog up the floor there’s not much hope. But again she sure is tall.

In a story about her offer from Iowa, 2025 Brynn McGaughy mentions UConn:

Q: Have you been hearing from any other schools that have not yet offered you a scholarship? Any visits planned for the fall?

McGaughy:
I’ve been hearing from UConn and South Carolina who have not yet offered me. I have a few visits on the calendar, but more to plan.

Being a Big at UCONN is difficult. They play an offense that requires a lot of movement and timing is extremely important. A late screen will result in a foul and loss of possession. On defense you get no rest either and when a turnover is made everyone is expected to get out on the break.

I really think if you have a girl 6'4 that has athletic ability you have the height you need to compete. Even last year they didn't lose because of the post play and they really didn't have the outside support that UCONN teams usually have.

It shouldn't be much longer. ;) I hope.

Number 23 looks like a baller...They don't make that comeback if without number 23.
Avery Howell, from Boise Idaho, number 45 on Hoop Gurlz class of 2024. Numerous offers including Oregon, Indiana, Cal, and of course, Louisville.

Shea Ralph offered both her and McGaughy.

Clara Silva, Portugal lost 81 to 63 to a better Polish team in the FIBA U 18 women's European Championship round of 16
Clara Silva, 6' 6" with 19 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 5 blocks, and an Efficiency rating of 27
She shot eight for 18 with a missed 3 pointer. 3 of 6 free throws 5 offensive rebounds, 8 defensive. She played
31:15 seconds. Clara needs to get into the weight room for strength. She had some ++ tips/deflections and
sets a screen pretty well. She is not exceptionally athletic and does not run the floor ( as Dorka does!). So
conditioning and some enhanced coaching is essential. I like her, but ..... Ines needs to coach her in the off season!!!

Is she a UConn player of interest?

All Clara Silva 6' 6" needs is a summer with Megan Gustafson! That and some weight training and conditioning.
Portugal loses again, this time to Finland 89 - 77. Portugal is now 3- 2. But our girl again played rather well:
20 points 21 rebounds (12!!! offensive rebounds, 9 defensive) with two block shots, three steals and
an efficiency rating of 30! In this game she put in 37:19 minutes. Clara needs some extra coaching on
her drop step shooting, on her spin move, and her fade shot. But she does have all these in her repertoire.
Her team is better with her on the court (obviously). This is the European women's Championship (U18) so she is
playing against some good players.... but most of them are not up to American AAU Standards. She
needs a scholarship to the WNBA international camp!!! Finally, she keeps the ball HIGH on her rebounds
(ONO learned that skill somewhat late!), she tips the ball on many of her rebounds to keep it alive (and not to foul), and
she has a rather high release on her (occasional) intermediate shot from within the foul line. She had only one
three pointer in 5 games, a miss. She holds the
ball tightly on her rebounds and does not get into tie-ups nor does she allow those rebounds to be stripped.
Highlights and FULL Games on FIBA U18 WOMEN's Championship, 2023 from Konya, Turkey.
While she may never make it to UCONN she (IMO) will develop much more that Piath Gabriel did under
somebody's good coaching. Z
