Khalid. The X-factor. The first one with the moxie to believe and make it so. Nothing was ever the same after we broke the seal, and we don’t break it without him. And somehow I knew it from the moment I saw him on the court the first game his freshman year.
Caveat: I previously thought Cup Cormier was that guy.
Caron or Emeka. When I first fell in love with the program, I loved watching them play -- it wasn't until I got older that I appreciated what they overcame (Caron) and accomplished (Emeka) off the court.
Best Ever = Kemba
Favorite = Shabazz (probably because I sold him a little short and he proved me wrong)
Game That I enjoyed Watching the Most = Ben Gordon (MSG)
Player That I Respected the Most = Emeka
Rippard Hamilton. Scored over 20 in each of the 6 1999 NCAA Tourney games and always seemed to shine when the spotlight was the brightest. Hit that huge buzzer beater against Washington in 1998 Tourney as well.
Caron... loved watching this kid play in person. I was courtside for this and it just made me appreciate everything he and UCONN brought to the table: hustle, athleticism, smarts, swagger.
Ryan Boatright. One of the only guys to give 110% every second he was on the court. Kid was 5'10 and played his college career at 150 pounds. The only way to succeed at D1 bball at that size is to out work and out hustle everyone, which is what he did.
