I noticed that before. That is a big reason why I would like to see Ian Cooke as a midweek starter. Plus in the post season you would need a fourth starter anyway.

Of course the flip side of this argument is that in college baseball, it is pretty much traditional for any coaching staff to want their best pitchers to be available to pitch on the weekends when in conference games are played. It really is a tough argument to go against, so I would certainly understand if the UConn coaching staff ends up using Ian Cooke in this way. As good as Cooke has looked, at this point he is not going to supplant anyone in the current UConn weekend rotation the way Austin Peterson, Pat Gallagher, and Enzo Stefanoni are pitching, so if Cooke is going to pitch weekend games, it would be out of the bullpen.

Still, it would not surprise me if Cooke goes an inning or two in relief in tonight's game against Pepperdine, and then see him get the start in one of the midweek games next week, most likely the Wednesday game.

Been at MSG the last 2 evenings. Big East tourney is always a blast to be at. Tough loss last night, but have to give Villanova credit. Every time it looked like we were going to make a run , they answered with a clutch play.

Our Peterson / Cooke combo on Friday night has been outstanding. We have now won 8 road games in a row, and only 2 wins away from reaching our goal (below) of 11 out of conference games. I know the RPI is probably irrelevant until a little later in season, but I like seeing us at 16. Plus I love the color green.

Go Huskies !!!

Another weekend series won. That is 4 straight weekend series won to start the season. I don't know when or if this has ever happened before. Maybe someone on this board has this info. Our pitching overall has been outstanding, but I am overjoyed with our starting pitchers. Not only have they pitched extremely effectively, they have gone deep into games. Gallagher with his 3rd straight impressive outing.

We now have won 10 straight games, 5th best streak in country. Also our 9 - 0 road record is best in the country. Off to a great start in California. Lets keep it going tomorrow.

Go Huskies !!!

So glad you did this tonight as I have a little free time and actually watched much of the past 2 games. The stats are looking as pristine as our home baseball diamond.

Whenever we win the first 2, always get disappointed when we don't sweep. But winning 2 of 3 at Pepperdine is a very successful weekend. The starting pitching has been excellent all year, and Enzo performed well enough to win. Our next 2 games are going to be very interesting. Curious to see how Coach Penders uses the pitching staff. Still all green below.

Go Huskies !!!

I think I am still recuperating from trip to MSG last week, because I fell asleep in third inning last evening. Caught up this morning by going through everyone's posts. Thank you.

Wow, Wow, Wow. What a great win at #25 USC. Cooke was outstanding in his first career start. Getting into 8th inning, and ending with 7 k's, giving up only 4 hits and ONLY 1 walk. Donlan, Padilla and Huber 2 hits each. We are on a roll.

We have already reached our goal of 11 out of conference wins, with 8 games left to play. The season could not have started much better, lets keep it going.

Go Huskies !!!

Also crazy that we apparently have 4 very solid starters. That could be huge in the first weekend of the tournament.

Post season tournament weekends are a big reason why I have wanted Cooke to be used as a midweek starter. You often need more than 3 starters.

I made a big Mojo error prior to Long Beach State game. After our big win vs USC, I started to do research in what would be needed to host a regional. I knew it was a mistake, but I did it anyways. I stated I was going to wait until after the California road trip, but I got a little greedy. Hoping the baseball gods do not punish us any longer for my doings.

Looking to turn it around this evening.

Go Huskies !!!

LOL. You're lucky the baseball board doesn't do hangings prior to the NCAA tournaments like the basketball board.

Was at BCHS vs Northwest Catholic state championship game last evening, so was not able to follow game till I got home. BCHS won 56 -36. Being from Bristol, I have watched Clingan play many times. I know he is definitely going to help the program and team, but hard to say how much. He ended up with 27 points and countless rebounds. It is just so difficult to see how his game translates to the college game. He is always double or triple teamed, plus he takes a beating on almost every play. It will be interesting to see how he develops in college. Rooting for him big time.

Don't have much to say about baseball game. Glad we pulled it out, and start another weekend with a win. Lets win the series today.

Another weekend series won. As Coach Penders stated, lets make a good road trip into a great one with a win today. We are 12-2 on the road, and 6 - 1 in one / two run games. We have exceeded our goal of 11 OOC wins by 2 already, and we still have 5 OOC games left. Our RPI is a 11. What a great start to the season. Lets keep it going.

Honestly, UConn baseball has done as well as you could expect at the start of this season, especially since no one really could expect the pitching staff to be as good it has been so far. One thing I would expect as the season progresses is for the RPI to drop a bit, considering the UConn's RPI is boosted from playing virtually all its games so far this season on the road. Now UConn will start to get home games into the mix as well. Still, if the team keeps winning weekend series as the season goes along, all will be well.

California trips ends at 5-3. Good but not great. We are still all green below. I am going to wait till Sunday evening to determine if I a gong to start a second chart.

Going to call the possible chart "something more aggressive", in honor of @huskypantz' s previous comment.

Just keep winning…

-> RPI ODDITIES, THE GOOD SIDE

Even though it’s early, it is still good to be on this side of the RPI rankings, even if it most certainly isn’t going to stay this way: …

UConn at No. 20 - Usually a snowbird program with a strength of schedule at No. 114 wouldn’t get much love from the RPI, but somehow the Huskies are here at No. 20. And rightfully so, these dudes can pitch and play. Unfortunately most of the remainder of their schedule is against 100-plus ranked teams. <-

Of course, one of the reasons UConn has such a good RPI is that they have played so many road games.

As a former Husky that played baseball at UConn and made it to AAA, I want to thank all the posters here as it gives me a chance to stay current. Looks like this year the schedule is soft, and our team is good. That is a recipe for the most wins in program history. Coach Penders has been great for UConn baseball! Thanks everyone!

Would you feel uncomfortable saying who you are? Would be interesting to see which former players are following the team

Pretty impressive outing yesterday. We just keep rolling. As many of us have stated, we just need to keep winning. The case could be made that we will not be considered underdogs in any game through the Big East tournament. This is also being done without our best player, Reggie Crawford. What a start.

I will not be updating chart till Sunday evening. Just have a bunch of things going on ( wife’s bday, first round of golf, niece bought a new house).

I will finish my research on a second chart. The chart will be called “ something more aggressive”. Let’s win another weekend today.

Go Huskies!!!
