Week 13 - Jan 29 to Feb 4

Well, that was some kind of weekend, and not the kind we like, for some fans. Here are are the games of top 25 teams this week. Depending on how fast I can copy/paste, a look at the top conferences (via Bracketology) for standings within/overall.

Some interesting disparities of conference vs overall standings in some conferences. Big10 and Pac12 fairly consistent, ACC and BE with only one team in a different spot, SEC, Big12, MWC, and WCC with some interesting differences.

Stanford and Texas both have 2 challenging games this week, but both can help themselves out a lot.

Indiana @ Ohio St. is a game that jumps out with big implications.

We're going to find out what Louisville is made of. So far, they have feasted on the bottom teams in the ACC but now the Cardinals will face ranked teams in 5 of its next 6 matchups, including Syracuse twice in a 10-day stretch.

NC State faces 4 ranked teams in its next 5 games, starting this Thursday with North Carolina.

The top teams are about to start playing each other so there should be some stratification in the ACC Standings over the next couple of weeks.

I have a feeling Syracuse and Louisville will spilt their series — lose on the road but win at home. I have tickets for the Syracuse home game. Fan turnout will be good — especially if Syracuse manages to beat L’Ville for the first game. I’ll have to get there early to get a good seat behind the Cardinals bench; Walz is always fun to watch coaching.

A lot of interesting top 25 matchups. I expect we’ll see some upsets there.

As for the top 25 vs unranked, I think it’ll be mostly chalk, but maybe a few surprises, particularly against the bottom half of the top 25.

LSU just looked so out of sync...and gas. No energy.

State should have beaten Vandy and TN also, but we miss too many easy layups every game. Barnum and Carter both missed 3 or 4 point blank layups tonight.

State is getting better the more they mesh.

They are better uptempo, but don't have the depth. It gets worse when you can't play Van Lith because she can't play defense. Williams looks gassed by quarter 4 every game.

Once again, they forgot Flauje was still playing in the 4th quarter. 8 out of 11 and they go to a frosh and Vanlith (1 for 6).

A slow night for D1 basketball.

• MAAC: Niagara on the brink of beating Canisius, meaning the two teams will switch spots in conference standings. Still leagues behind 9-0 Fairfield, though. Here's some basketball history -- Niagara and Canisius used to be in a tiny conference called "The Western NY Little Three". You can read the Wiki article here.
• OVC: Lindenwood "upset" Southeat Missouri State. Both teams are still conference cellar dwellers, though not as bad as SIU Edwardsville, who is a perfect 0-8. Ouch.
• Big 12: At halftime, #23 WVU is beating up on UCF (1-7 record). And there's a pillow fight starting between Houston (2-6) and Cincinnati (2-6).
• Big Ten: Michigan State is currently leading Rutgers by +/- 10 in Q3. We'll see if Rutgers can mount a comeback.

Some Wed. games of interest: #1 vs. #2 in the Big 12 K State @ Oklahoma and in the Mountain West a battle for first place between UNLV and Wyoming.
