Tyler of course, not Pat.

Wow.
2-3 yrs as an assistant at Marquette and now head at LT?

I think this is gonna raise some eyebrows as well.

That is...interesting. A big "name" coach at a former big name school? Hmm. Smacks of a publicity stunt to me.

Good for him. Hopefully, he'll be given a reasonable amount of time to improve the program and succeed.

He is going to be barely older than the players he will be coaching.
He is what, 24 ???

As with most things in life, it is more important who you know than what you know :)

Yes, I think that's what they were going for. [not sarcasm]

Though if Teresa Weatherspoon couldn't generate publicity, how much more is this going to?

Well, he learned from a young age what coaching takes. Good luck to him and La Tech. But I am pretty sure he isn't going to be signing up for any holiday tournaments that UConn might also be in.

Twitter very active over this.
Some very pro; but more very against. The general theme of "Jimmy Dykes, Part 2" coming up.

Funny that Sally Jenkins chimed in with how ready Tyler is.
Somehow I imagine that in any other context if a 24 yr old man got a HC WCBB job she'd be ranting.

He's 23 years old. Not that much older than the players he'll be coaching/mentoring.

Jenn Rizotti was about the same age when she became the head coach at the University of Hartford.

If he has significant success at LaTech the folks at checkerboard square will be screaming
to dump Holly and bring Tyler "home" to Knoxville.

Sally should be totally disregarded on any topic related to Pat. She has no objectivity, whatsoever.

Tyler is young. I too wonder if he is really ready. It'll be interesting to see who he gets as assistants. I wish him well, but I'm skeptical.

Jenn Rizotti was about the same age when she became the head coach at the University of Hartford.

Rizzotti had played point guard (ie, "coach on the floor") for a NC team. She also took over a program with 2 winning seasons (15-12 and 15-13) in its 15 years of Div 1.

This is a joke or at best a long shot. If he can achieve 3-4 years of 50/50 at LaTech you can bet your last dollar that the Summiteers will be clamoring for him to replace Holly. The argument, he's proven at LaTech and with Tenn's superior ability to draw recruits it's perfect! 'Course if Holly stays that long the Tenn draw for recruits may be a bit tattered.

Looks to me like Tyler is going to be given a shot at AAA to learn that aspect before he's called up to the big show...

I hope he learned an awful lot during his stay at Marquette. Running a program is a lot more than coaching on the sidelines and recruiting. And it is a lot more than running drills in practice. He saw the finished product at TN but wasn't around when Pat was building that program. Be very interesting to see who he can get as assistants.

If he is successful there. I wonder how long before the top programs start calling him.

LOL, maybe he should be a head coach for longer than one day before speculation about his moving up starts. Although, it seems pretty apparent to me that La Tech is Tyler's training ground for taking over Tennessee some day.
