No, Chong is not Nurse or MoJeff on defense, and that is probably a good thing, because each of the three players has a different defensive style and presence that fits well in the Husky scheme and makes them all able to be the team's stopper in certain situations, which can happen within games as well as in different games. The fact that they have very different body types also allows Geno to mix and match to best advantage when the opponents are having some success against UConn.
Chong's lockdown on Mitchell against USCar shows that at times she can be the better all-around defender against the most dangerous guards because she has both quickness and length, even if she is listed at 4 inches shorter than Nurse. She can stay with a mobile guard better than Kia and can frustrate the shooter with her springy wingspan and even pick up occasional blocks, unlike Kia who is more ground-based (great for diving on loose balls and for steals) and still has none on the season.
Kia is solid and rugged at defense and is best against the more usual guards who aren't that quick but who can be kept in control without having to run all over the court with face-guarding defense. She plays low to the ground and also like MoJeff has a great sense of where an opponent's pass is going, especially while they are trying to get the ball up court against a UConn press, and that allows her to get a lot of steals and scoop up some erratic dribbles around the paint.
MoJeff's ability to disrupt the opponent's offense in so many ways hardly needs any explanation as she just out-quicks, out-hustles, and out-thinks them while robbing them blind, often for easy baskets on the other end. The only limit for her is the height, which allows some taller guards to shoot over her, though occasionally they take the height advantage too much for granted and MoJeff gets to imitate Kiah.
