If you could believe the predictions of doom
Hiring a new president for the NCAA is like changing captains on the the Titanic after it hit the ice berg

Another thought about Charlie is that his financial experience may be perfect for leading the NCAA into the NIL era. Its great that they didn't pick some college administrator for the position

Charlie Baker has always been pretty well recieved during his tenure as Governor (coming from a Boston resident). A little shaky at the end, but I think the big thing here is going to be his connections in the government with the NIL litigation and power struggle with the P5 possibly breaking away. The more I look at it the more it makes sense.

Interesting point though: He was a big proponent in getting sports gambling legalized in Massachusetts and had his fingerprints all over it.

In reality, aren't the P-5 conferences running the NCAA? So this is a figurehead position.

Baker is a well-liked politician, but he also has business experience. He was brought in as CEO of my healthcare provider, Harvard Pilgrim, when it was close to bankruptcy and he turned it around and made it profitable and some thought Harvard Pilgrim was a lost cause.

My opinion of the man has somehow lessened by this. As if he couldn't find a more respectable job.
