I spoke w/ an NCAA official this week who was “95% certain” transfers will soon be allowed to play immediately in basketball & football. Could be a one-time freebie, plus grad transfer option. So in theory, a student-athlete could play for three different schools w/o sitting out.

This has been in the works for months. For better or worse, it is a virtual certainty that it will go into effect, barring changes from an upcoming commission’s recommendations. There have been certain key dates along the way, including this Thursday. Sources: Major Potential Shift In NCAA Transfer Rules

This would be absolutely horrendous for UConn. Literally every decent player other than Wilson would likely leave. Hopefully it doesn’t go into effect next season.

It’s definitely understandable rule, but yikes, it would be doomsday for Ollie.

Yeah, but if that happened we'd get a new coach, and then he could bring in new players from other teams and get us back to competitive even quicker than normal.
Which coach would that be? And which new players that are good would be chomping at the bit to come to a UConn program that had no players?

I think it should be somewhere in the middle. Make the transfer sit 8-10 games or something like that. An entire season is a lot.

This is great news.

It will help our new coach bring in players that can be eligible immediately next year.

Oh no! We might lose some of the players we have on this joke of a roster!

This is good news for UConn.

Maybe Danny Hurley who has been rumored to want the job here. URI current RPI #13 and KenPom #32 Knocking on the door to be in the AP top 25. Add some of that roster to Sid vicious and possibly others.

So if Carlton, Whaley, and Vital transferred while Adams and Larrier left early to go play in the G League, you'd be happy?

The answer isn’t to hold kids hostage. Address the root cause...

It would suck, but we would also have the ability to bring in new players as well. Have to do what's best for the program.

People act like transferring is super easy. Where are these players going to transfer to it isn't like they were highly recruited. The players that would transfer are going to be the 5 star guys sitting on benches with no hope of getting minutes.

Wenyen Gabriel at UK comes to mind. He was a UConn lean at one time.

i agree that kids shouldn't be held hostage as they currenly are. However, unlimited yearly transfers without penalty could be pandemonium.

That is the absolute worst case scenario. That is a ton of recruiting that teams will have to deal with which doesn't seem realistic.

Well that is only looking at one side. What IF we brought in players that could score and defend? What if there are BETTER players out there than what we currently have?

Unless you think what we currently have is the best that UConn can do, in which case we are screwed for forever.

No matter what, we won't be good next year, so why not be miserable for one more season if that means the end of mediocrity, and that is being kind.

This isnt good at all.

This sport as a whole (I'll always bleed blue though) is almost dead to me anyway. This possibly could be the final nail in the coffin.

If you think the P5 very few elite schools at the top have cornered the market on one and dones and it has hurt the game, just wait until they have the pick of the litter on free transfers. Every season.

And wait until you see the tampering and payola that come out of these scenarios.

The NCAA is taking an existing dumpster fire and pouring more gasoline on it. This will entirely accelerate the end of everyone but the P5.
