One creative alternative: completely reframing the 20/21 schedule to keep all games regional.

There's 32 D-1 conferences, maybe have like eight groups of four conferences competing all of their games together to limit travel...like a Big East/MAAC/MAC/NEC grouping and a A-10/Conference USA/AAC/Patriot grouping...somehow try to even out the playing fields while keeping things as regional as possible.

NCAA and conferences cancel all games but say teams can have a season only against teams in their own state with limited capacity of fans (season ticket holders for uconn can attend):

UConn
Yale
Central Connecticut
Sacred Heart
University of Hartford
Fairfield

play each team twice. Top 4 seeds play in a tournament.

1. would we win it all and go 12-0?
2. If we don’t win it all, would it be a huge embarrassment for the program or just a product of the crazy covid era?
3. Would you keep your season tickets at a prorated price or accept a full refund?
4. If the women had the same schedule, could they hold one of these schools to single digits in a game?
In response, maybe a different hypothetical with more competitive teams, could be based on a 100-150 mile radius. The distance would be commutable by bus, and would avoid the Covid risks of air travel and airports.

Who additional could you get with these parameters? URI, Providence, BC, St. John's, Seton Hall, Stony Brook, Albany, Vermont. Not all bad teams. Yale is a very good team now, and has been for a while. I have not personally checked out the miles these schools are from Storrs. Every team on every schedule has its cupcakes so no problem with the other in state schools.

For the better schools, you could do a home and away.

Just my take.

If this is the best option given travel restrictions let’s set it up. Play it over winter break, maybe can include the Rhode Island and Vermont schools too

I truly believe there will be a vaccine to allow this season to happen as normal. (With or without fans)

The more I think about it, if there's going to be non-conference games, the schedule will be totally shifted to regional regardless of what conference a team is in.

Save for Hawaii, every college is near other colleges that are no more than a few hours drive away. UConn will be easy, all the cities will be easy, but even the more sparse parts of the country, like the Mountain Time Zone has some possibilities.

For example, between Montana, Idaho and Eastern Washington there is a nice six-team cluster that includes Gonzaga, Washington State and four Big Sky teams. There's a nice six-team trapezoid in the southwest that includes Arizona, Arizona State, New Mexico State, New Mexico, Grand Canyon and UTEP. The five northern Utah teams can pair up with Boise State and Idaho State.

No matter the region, there's a nice mix of lower level teams and higher quality teams from either bigger conferences or better mid-major conferences.

Not a bad 8 team league. We would be the favorite but don't overlook the Catamounts.

Competitive teams, mostly. Not so much UMass and BC, but maybe they are upgrading. Remember, UConn had a secret scrimmage at Harvard so you know they respected the quality of the team's basketball skill. John Becker has done a good job at UVM.

As for UMass and BC - every league needs cellar dwellers
