And there’s also some reasons why it is not a good move right now. Who the hell’s in the big 12 ? Kansas (if they stay) Kansas State, West Virginia(program will falter with huggie gone)TCU, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Nebraska -yawn. Again aac all over again with the way things r trending. Hopefully we ve learned our lesson. Things are so ridiculous now.

1 - Where is Kansas going?
2 - You left out Baylor (they won a title not long ago.
3 - Top to bottom the B-12 (with UConn) is a far better men's basketball conference than the BE (with UConn).
4 - Any current BE schools that we want to continue a relationship with will be more than happy to schedule games with us. When we were in the AAC we scheduled a series with Nova (when they were at their highest point ever and we were at our lowest since Perno). They obviously were the only BE school we felt an important enough connection with to continue playing at that time. If things have changed I'm confident that an agreement can be reached with other BE schools.

Nebraska! If only! One thing I like about the Yard, though frustrating at times, is that numbnuts are welcomed.

If you think we leave the conference and our current conference-mates line up to play us afterwards you are off your rocker. There will be heavy opposition to us.

Excellent argument when you miss a team in The conference that was highly ranked and add a lousy team not in the conference. Well played.

1. People are in live with a conference in which we are starkly different institution from every other school. That should not be comfortable and scare me greatly.
2. People overblow the travel thing. There are plenty of mid west schools currently in the Big east.
3. Whatever anyone thinks is a great rival in the BE would jump at chance to continue playing us.
4. The BE of today is not what it used to be and many of our rivals are already long gone. B12 is better right now even with us in BE.
5. Better competition for baseball and womens hoops. All teams doing well for Uconn is a good thing….right?
6. Football can get good again. People do not seem to remember the consistently full stadiums of the past when we were actually good. Cant argue that Mora had not at least begun to take us back to that. See last statement of #5. A good football program is good for Uconn hoops.
7. I have not even mentioned the money. No brainer.
8. Success in B12 would open up other opportunities.

It's a huge win for football and university finances, neutral at worst for basketball, only downside is extra travel. But, with players getting NIL and the university getting B12 money, travel can be tolerated.

Gotta love Conference Realignment takes from a guy who thinks Nebraska is still in the B12

1 - Who is so important that a continued series of games with that school would outweigh financial security?
2 - If Nova was willing to schedule games with us a half dozen years ago (think about where they were and where we were then) why would any current BE school not be willing to schedule games with the premier program in the northeast?

I can think of approximately 51 million reasons a year why it would be different than being in the American. Being in the American and getting paid for all sports, essentially, on a net value, the same deal as being in the Big East made it a no-brainer to switch. Making $51 million a year in the big 12 alone makes it a no-brainer to switch there. The Big East was an excellent short term solution for us, but it was always intended to be a waystation not a destination.

Getting rid of the infamous "G5" moniker has a huge benefit in perception, independent of the huge difference in annual earnings. Though initially a football term, it now has become a de facto sub category of athletics. Becoming a P5 member helps the Connecticut brand across all sports.

So, tell me, where do you think Kansas is going? The big 10 has not expressed any interest in it, neither has the SEC. The ACC looks to be very vulnerable when its GOR expires, in the Pac 12 can't put together a media contract. One of the strengths of the big 12 is that after OU and Texas leave, there really isn't anyone else who is likely to move. That has value from a broadcast right perspective, because stability has value.

Right now, the big 12 seems to be Connecticut's only and best option.

Certainly would help pay for BB coach and players. BIG 12 is the premier BB conference and playing in NYC will be a top priority.

Do ppl really think St. John’s is a bigger, more exciting rival to us than Creighton? The old big east is long gone no matter how much we wish it wasn’t.

UConn is much closer to Big 12 country than USC and UCLA is to Big 10 country. Every trip for them is 2 time zones. I never heard travel as a problem for those two.

We all know that money and football will drive UConn’s bus (even if our hoops is what makes us a desirable target) if it comes down to making a move. Local rivalries are usually way more interesting. But that ain’t the game right now. The BigUncountable would be more fun, at least for me who had 2 kids go to conference schools (UM and Northwestern). The feel of things in the Big12 would kinda be like being in the AAC (for geographic reasons) but aside from the lack of “local” rivals. even a watered down Big 12 is so much more interesting than the AAC.

People don’t seem to realize this. The only way UConn ever ends up in the Big 10 is if they join the Big 12 or Acc asap.

Nope, don't realize this. Must be some of that brilliant insider knowledge that a simpleton like me just don't be comprehended

So we have to accept a Big 12 invite to get into the Big 10

Any insight into the Big 12 exit fees we'd be paying before we're even accepted into the Big 12?

This stuff be getting complicated

P5 schools are falling over each other trying to compete to get into the Big 10 or SEC. There is absolutely no chance the Big 10 is taking a school that hasn’t proven to be competitive in football in a P5 conference. Any remote hope of the Big 10 for us would be showing 5+ years of sustained success in a P5 conference for football and investment/commitment in football from the university.

A souped up AAC that blows the Big East out of the water when it comes to current players in the NBA.

and there will be about 30 million reasons per season why it is not dumb.
Yeah, but MSG! Plus we get to play DePaul and some day they will be mediocre. Law of averages!
