This, like all expansion, will be football driven. UConn doesn’t check any of the boxes. We don’t add a new tv market, we aren’t in a recruiting hot bed, and we’re currently not very good at football. The ACC will be looking to grab much bigger fish if they expand ( which they won’t).Our stay in the Big East might not be long.
Market driven, as well. If you think Cincinnati football will bring in more than UConn would, sure. This, like all expansion, will be football driven. UConn doesn’t check any of the boxes. I don’t think the ACC is going after Cincy either. In my opinion neither UConn or Cincy add value.Market driven, as well. If you think Cincinnati football will bring in more than UConn would, sure.
You do realize Connecticut is actually not part of the ACC's markets?
The state of Connecticut, along with inroads into New England, and possibly NY; big games would be popular in Boston and NYC, as well.I don’t think the ACC is going after Cincy either. In my opinion neither UConn or Cincy add value.
Hallelujah. What non-P5 school actually moves the football needle for the ACC? No AAC school does. Noone cares about Cincy or Houston. They just don't. Navy is a nice story but that's it. BYU and Boise are closest to national names but really aren't good fits. BYU is the closest but it's an incredible outlier. Could they poach a B12 school? Who is worth it from a football perspective? There are only 3 answers - UT, OU and OSU. None of the three are going to the ACC unless they went together in a package, which won't happen.
We are the best geographic fit. Good academic fit. We have some advantages from a media market perspective.Great athletic fit except for.....football of course. Which is what most people really care about.
We have to pray that ND needs a partner and we somehow move the needle enough for them to pull the trigger.
The good news - we don't have to freak out about AAC teams possibly leaving the conference for the B12 or anywhere else. Whatever happens, happens.
Connecticut is not getting an ACC invite, and Notre Dame is not joining the ACC.The state of Connecticut, along with inroads into New England, and possibly NY; big games would be popular in Boston and NYC, as well.
Cannot understand the logic some come up with.
Sad, but likely true!I don't see the future TV deals p

You guys ever bother to read what their athletic director Jack Swarbick thinks and says about that?I don't see the future TV deals p

Yes, He said it’s not gonna happen, wouldn’t be prudent. You guys ever bother to read what their athletic director Jack Swarbick thinks and says about that?
Latest reports say he's all for full membership.Yes, He said it’s not gonna happen, wouldn’t be prudent.
Umm no. He actually has stated the exact opposite of that. He has said numerous times that it was a good experience but ND will return to independence. No quote anywhere you can find will say he desires full membership.Latest reports say he's all for full membership.
The ACC is just not worth more money - it’s an awful football league outside of Clemson.
Our stay in the Big East might not be long.

For UConn the ACC is the best overall fit. UConn culturally is much more like the colleges of the ACC than the B12, New Big East or many other conferences.Yeah, that's true. But it's better than the football conference we're currently in. And pays better too.

He allegedly told The Athletic he does desire full membership.
Never say never but Swarbrick on 2020 ACC Membership 6 days ago (Go to 2:25 minute mark).
>>The reasons that we value independence — and it continues to be a priority for us — aren’t impacted by the positive experience of being in the ACC fully this year. It’s just that it serves some other interests at Notre Dame, as a university, that are important to us. That’s why we’ll continue to do that.<<
