Another year of following UConn Baseball is right around the corner. As almost always , there are key players production that we need to replace. Also it will be interesting to see how our pitching shakes out. But I have confidence that with all our options, we will be fine. We always seem to have a few players that have a breakout seasons. Looking forward to seeing who they will be.

As always , I would like to thank everyone that posts during the off season. I read every post, and it keeps me informed. Also for those that update games live. Please keep it up. I greatly appreciate it, and I am sure others do also.

This year I broke the schedule down into 4 categories. I lumped together the New England and Northeast games into 1 category. I also added 1 category to the Post season Criteria. That criteria is Conference RPI. Last year there were 21 teams that won 40 games and had an RPI in the top 50. Only Kent State from the Mid- American Confernce was excluded. The Mid American was 20th in RPI ranking.

I hope everyone enjoys this chart as much as I do. I believe this is the 15th year that the chart is part of the UConn Baseball board. I am anticipating another successful and fun season following UConn baseball,

Also after looking over the chart, please let me know if you find any discrepencies.

Go Huskies!!!

The 3 Criteria
(1) Minimum 40 wins

We have both been following UConn baseball for a goodly amount of time now. After listening to some UConn baseball games on WHUS during the first decade of this century, I really started following the team closely during the 2010 season as WHUS radio started to ramp up coverage of UConn baseball games. A few seasons later, I started doing my posting on the Boneyard threads about UConn baseball.

I guess I really got Chris Jones to blame for how attached I have become to UConn baseball. When Jones became sports director of WHUS radio sometime after the 2010 season, he got WHUS to carry pretty much all UConn baseball games every season. Since then almost every UConn baseball game has either been on the radio or streamed over the internet. He made it a lot easier to follow the team, that's for sure.

Being a 1982 grad of UConn, I was always interested in how the team was doing. But I also started following the Baseball team extensively in the 2010 season. In 2010 Ryan Moore was a freshman on the team. He is the son of friends, and also a fellow St. Paul grad.

So as I started to follow Ryan’s career, I decided to start the Chart. So I guess Ryan Moore playing at UConn was the inspiration of the Chart.

I spent half my time at WHUS and broadcast quite a few games at JO Christian and Big East tournament games in Bristol. But I was following the team on the 70's when Larry Panciera was the head coach and Andy Baylock the pitching coach. UConn baseball has been in my blood for a very long time!

I would be concerned about a 49 RPI and not winning the conference tournament. Do we know if teams with an RPI that low get at large bids historically?

When I first started the chart in 2010, I researched results from the previous 4 years. There was only a few (2-3) teams that didn’t receive an At Large bid, if they had won 40+ games and had a top 50 RPI. This was regardless of conference affiliation.

As stated in original post 20 of 21 teams last year made the tournament, that had 40+ wins and a top 50 RPI.

So I agree that I would be anxious with an RPI of 49, but historically the percentage seems to be over 95% chance of receiving a bid

Great start to the season with a double header sweep. Our pitchers were the stars of the game. Hopefully we can get the third game in this weekend.

I’m not going to update the team and conference RPI for 3-4 weeks. Feel it takes a while for that to be a true indicator. All we can do is keep on winning.

Just got home from hoop game, wow what a performance. Defense is suffocating and so many options on offense. It was beautiful to watch today.

We had three 1 run games this weekend. Our pitching seems to be very solid, but the offense really needs to get going. I’m confident that they will. Great way to start season winning 2 of 3 vs very solid competition.

I've been using Warren Nolan, I like it because it gets updated fairly quickly after the game is finished. I usually compare it to D1Baseball's RPI whenever they put their RPI out to get an idea of where they are sitting in the RPI. But, its not much help right now seeing we just finished opening weekend. As of now if it's worth anything UConn is at 33 LVille is at 35 and USF is at 58.

I've been checking out Warren Nolan college baseball RPI for several years now. Thing is, this early in the season it just doesn't mean all that much, which I'm sure is the reason D1baseball.com doesn't start posting it on their website until mid to late March. RPI is basically based on the strength of schedule and the records of the teams your team has played, and this early in the season there is pretty much no record of that stuff. So it pretty much becomes guess work on the part of evaluators. You get some weird stuff going on in the rankings, such as Texas Southern tied at at No. 1 and Prairie View A&M at No. 4 in the rankings. It isn't as if either team beat any big time schools during the first weekend. Really need to let it play out for a few weeks before the RPI ratings mean anything.

To the premature RPI point > Upcoming California was sitting @56 before their game v. BYU (@144) today:

Big East baseball teams currantly have a 9-13 collective record. Don't ask me how, but the conference is currently rated No. 2 in RPI. Premature RPI point, that is for sure.

Rough weekend in California. I can’t remember the last time we were swept in a 3 game series. Not going to be easy but a series win next weekend, would be very important to get us back on track.

A much needed win in second game of doubleheader. Getting Luke Broadhurst into the lineup was instrumental in the victory. A win today would be Huge. Being 4 - 5 feels so much better than 3 - 6. Also winning 2 of 3 vs a Top 25 SEC team on their home field, will pay big dividends for RPI and At Large resume.

Heading to Men's Hoop game today, so probably won't be able to check updates till game is in progress. Would love to be sitting down this evening, with a Men's Hoop Big East regular season championship and a weekend series win by the Baseball team vs a SEC Top 25 team.

Go Huskies !!!!
