At the assembly, Schill and the panelists also discussed UCLA and USC joining the Big Ten Conference. The two schools will enter the Big Ten in August 2024.

Schill said he is “not really thrilled” with the inclusion of UCLA and USC in the Big Ten. While he remains “skeptical about the initial decision,” he believes adding more West Coast teams to the Big Ten, in addition to UCLA and USC, could result in less overall travel time for all teams in the conference.

Yup, could eventually be something like that. SEC would probably pick up FSU, Zona, maybe Clemson, not sure who else to get to 24.

If it ends up being 48 programs between those two conferences I'm not sure why they hang around in the NCAA. They will be looking for media contracts to rival the NFL, NBA, etc. and they won't put up with any restrictions that might get in the way of maximizing revenues.

Frankly, it doesn't hold much appeal to me even if UCONN did end up in this group.

The B1G announced its conference schedule for 2024 and 2025. Here are the highlights:

The conference will continue to play a 9 game league schedule.
Divisions are officially eliminated.
The conference championship game will see the two best teams in the conference face each other.
All teams will play all other 15 teams at least one time in 2024 or 2025.
The schedule is called "Flex Protect Plus". A total of 11 "protected rivalry" games exist - Iowa leads with 3 protected rivalries. Some schools have 2 protected rivalries, some have 1 protected rivalry, and some have no protected rivalries if this model continues past 2025.
This scheduling arrangement is only guaranteed for two years. Possible expansion in 2026?

I'm not sure what the point of Tweets like this are supposed to be. Everyone understands that the majority of B1G Schools are much farther flights than the schools that they currently play in The PAC 12. What it leaves out is the context of why they'd do it.

If anybody gave a rip about the PAC 12 they would be celebrating their new big money deal with USC and UCLA as members. Instead, they're negotiating with QVC and The Lifetime Movie Channel to broadcast their games and Oregon and Washington would sell their first born sons to be making those longer flights.

It's good that UCLA and USC will spend that much time on a plane. They will need that much time to count all their money.

They can't blame the Hawaii game on B1G membership, and in all candor they should have rethought scheduling that one. I'm guessing they did it for recruiting purposes but very few P-5 schools make that trip.

You are right. I wish we could link ourselves to a dying cable network and win exactly one championship in either of the major sports since 2002.

"Trips out of LA include Honolulu, Piscataway, and Ann Arbor."

One of these things is not like the others...

Not Rutgers for sure!
Yeah, I guess that's pretty much true. The relative salience if that list depends on how highly you are ranked on it. Still, it's not like it's a hotly debated topic or has coverage on SportsCenter or anything.
