I’m guessing Ryan Juliano another freshman who didn’t see action is moving on as well. Again no surprise and don’t blame kids either…

ECSU transfer to UConn Matt Malcom has joined the Norwich Sea Unicorns of the Futures League. He is the D.H. in the game tonight.

Also new to the Norwich roster is incoming UConn freshman Tyler Minick, who is starting at shortstop tonight.

Hard to say from this post what is going on with Ryan Juliano. Is he giving up on college baseball or what? Still, he was a freshman who did not get any playing time with UConn in the spring season, so it would not be a big surprise if he were to leave the team and wasn't on the UConn fall roster this coming September.

Alex Mach this summer for Danbury has now pitched 13.1 innings in 6 games, and now has an ERA of 2.02 while allowing 7 hits and 6 walks. Yesterday was his first starting pitcher assignment of the summer season.

A few days ago I mentioned that the Norwich Sea Unicorns of the Futures League had added a couple of incoming UConn recruits to their roster, Matt Malcom and Tyler Minick.

Well, Norwich is back to adding another incoming UConn freshman as the regular season ends in a couple weeks. Now they have added freshman Sean Finn, an infielder/RHP. He pitched 2 solid innings today. Interesting that both of the incoming UConn freshmen are from Pennsylvania.

Garrett Coe comes up with another relief appearance for Falmouth in which he allowed no runs in 3 innings despite issuing 3 walks and giving up 1 hit. A nice bounce back from the Cape Cod League All Star Game where he gave up 1 run in a 1 one inning appearance. Still, Coe has done quite well this summer pitching for Falmouth, with an ERA of 1.53 including the All Star Game appearance.

A bit on Braden Quinn in this article:

<Danbury’s Braden Quinn (UConn) recorded two strikeouts in his scoreless frame, using his good sharp slider at 81-82 as the out pitch on both of them. He works fast and downhill from a high slot, and his fastball sat 90-91 mph in this look. He also threw a quality downer curveball at 77-79 and flashed a promising changeup at 85 with tumble.>

Braden Quinn had problems with control last season with UConn, but his control has been quite good with Danbury this summer. He has pitched 47.1 innings, and has walked only 14 batters (which is quite good, he walked 7 batters in 7.2 innings with UConn last season) while picking up an outstanding number of strikeouts (63). Quinn has been used mostly as a starting pitcher this summer, so you have to wonder if the UConn coaching staff is going to give serious consideration of him being used as a starting pitcher next season.

If he has unlocked the key to his control, this is tantamount to a new pitcher coming onto the squad. He definitely could be in the mix based on all the openings for rotation spots.

Well, we'll see what happens. If I recall correctly, at the beginning of the last UConn season, Quinn was one of the pitchers who had been stretched out for possible use as a starter, which would help to explain his use as a starting pitcher for Danbury this summer season. That plus I've had the idea that the coaching staff always thought pretty high of Quinn's potential. Hopefully this summer has been a big jumping off point for him in his development.
