this should be one fo those games where the score is what ever we want it to be. Pasqualoni is old school so we will keep it reasonable.

They will be jacked for this one. Season opener for their first game as an FCS school. Their coach has already come out and said their goal is to be THE program in New England.

I think this one will be tougher than folks think it should be.

That said, if we get the chance to hang 50+ on them we should absolutely do it. There is no reason to open the door to any program to become New England's program. New England is UCONN Country and that must always be. They want to play big boy football and run their mouth, that's fine. But, they should have to pay the price.

im starting to get real jacked up for this fall. maybe my thoughts are over the top but i really think we can do something special this fall if a couple things fall into place and the chances of those things seem to be good ones at this point. seems like most of the players are going home this weekend. one last chance to be home with family and friends before the grind begins. when everyone comes back on monday and then reports on the 2nd, hopefully fball talk comes alive with practice notes and stuff.

To be the program of New England you have to slam the door closed on everyone else. No reason to absolutely humiliate them for the simple sake of it, but hanging a large number on the to show them the climb they have to make can only help us do that.

I'm horrified. Poor Chandler Whitmer, the weight of the world is on his shoulders. Fortunately, I think he is ready for it.

Last year we are +10 in this game tops. No reason to be overly confident until we see if we have improved or not. Last season was ugly.

UMass has the potential to grow in football. We need to smush them as we have in basketball.

Their upside is limited as long as they are in the MAC. They could be a goof MAC team or they might be a middle of the road MAC team or a bad one, but that is a limitation and will always be a limitation.

Chances are they'll go beyond the MAC.

If I'm not mistaken, a certain loud mouthed coach named Don Brown, was coaching the defense at UMass, when last we played in 1999, and UMass hung 62 points on our FHCRE......UConn team.

Minor story line, but I would like the scoreboard to be flipped from where it was in 1999, just like that coach.

I agree. There's nothign more dangerous than a team taht's got potential, and is properly motivated to be playing with a chip on their shoulder and has nothing to lose. II fully expect to be running into that with UMass.

That's why I hope that P doesn't take the foot off the pedal at any time. Last time UConn and UMass played, we were both in the A-10 conference in 1999, and we got beat 62-20. Payback.

Keep in mind that we have an all time losing record against them. I feel no particular need to crush them, nor any need to make it close. Just play the game. If it gets out of hand, it's a good time to give back ups some minutes and keep the two deep injury free.

Sounds about right to me, I think we win by 4 td's

UMASS has faired pretty well vs. FBS opponents during their FCS days, no? With the coaching change in play ( offensive and defensive philosophy, a new culture ) I suspect we could be up by 4 TDs by the 4th quarter, but this ain't Fordham... UMASS teams historically play pretty well the entire game.. Never known to catch serious beatdowns on the football field...

UMASS is a MAC team. We lost to one last year, and our last three games vs Temple have been painful. If the team and coaches are looking past UMASS and thinking about NC State and Maryland we could easily end up in a rock fight. Seldom have our home openers been this interesting. What was the halftime score when UCONN made it's first trip to BC? If I remember right BC fans were not too happy. I remember Fincher laying out a few players.

UMass is ultimate trap game. Our defense has the potential to be devastating and Whitmer will be an upgrade x 10. but this team has to prove itself to show it is not last years team. They can do it by being well in charge at halftime. then talk to me about Mike Glennon

It's amazing that many of you guys see this as a close game or even a trap. Umass is making it's transition from FCS to FBS, I don't even believe that they are at their 85 scholarship limit. They have a new coach and new offense and defense, when they line up against us on August 30, most of their starters will be FCS level recruits.

We should win this easily, which is why Vegas put the spread where it is. We will crush them, trust me.

Defense has to set the tone and lead the way. Don't see this as an easy win. D holds them under 20 and we should win. Offense will be trying to get things figured out. Opening night jitters etc. Glad we have Nick Williams.

Didn't UMASS hang with Michigan recently after they beat us pretty soundly?

If this team can't get focused an overlooks an opponent on OPENING DAY were in trouble. If this game was sandwhiched around NC State and UMD, I could see it calling a "trap game". Thursday night, to open the season, the team will be pumped, I hope!

UMass leads, 36-33-2. You know 3 games under .500 for a series that lasted this long is not bad?

Umass was picked to finish last in the MAC. This game better not end up being very close or Uconn is in for a long season. They are short on scholarships and don't have a great QB and struggled last year.
