Welcome boys and girls to the greatest show on earth, at this time of year anyway.
Serena is a heavy favorite, having captured the last 2 majors, but hasn't emerged here in the last two,
splitting 2 and 2 this decade with Petra Kvitova, who sits right behind Serena at second seed.
Maria S. ranks high also and has a few majors, including a career Grand Slam. Maria was all smiles in 2004
as a 17 year old, but she hasn't won since.
Serena has 5 trophies.
Sister Venus is the next ranked American at 16 and like Serena has 5 wins, the last in 2008.
It's her favorite tournament, but it's difficult to feel optimistic. She got bounced in the 1st round at the French.
Both sisters don't ready themselves at the grass court warm-ups, so we can't know how Venus is faring with her game. The combo of her age and Sjogrens Syndrome makes it hard to think she can do well for 7 matches in 2 weeks. And if she wins 3 matches, she gets Serena.
The sisters are entered in doubles also, as a 12th seed.
This year Vika Azaranka has been making her way back from a long layoff. She's earned a 23 seed here,
and that could mean a good contest early with a high seed.
Madison Keys is the only other seed from USA, and she sits at 23. The 20 year old likes grass, but just had a disappointing 2nd round loss at Eastbourne.
I'll be back with the men.
ESPN at 7am eastern for the first 5 days.
