Others that haven't been mentioned that I liked include Slap Shot, Seabiscuit, The Rookie and Greatest Game Ever Played (Hoop Dreams for a documentary). There was also an obscure minor league baseball movie called Long Gone that was really good.

Has there ever been a decent movie that even tangentially involved tennis?

Does Rain Man count? He was pretty obsessed with baseball, even though he didn't actually play it.

Friday Night Lights - no story book ending and the music by Explosions in the Sky is awesome
Field of Dreams - I always get choked up when Ray says "hey Dad, you wanna have a catch?"
Remember the Titans - love whenSunshine says "let him through"

Match Point was a great movie, and Scarlett Johansson is so hot in it. Not really a sports movie but had a tennis backdrop. Wimbledon was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I enjoy Bull Durham, but what always keeps it off my "best" list is Tim Robbins' inability to even remotely resemble a competent pitcher. You could believe Charlie Sheen's delivery in Major League. Or even Brendan Fraser as Steve Nebraska (The Scout had its moments early on and late, but the middle is a hot mess).

1. Field of Dreams
2. Eight Men Out
3. The Longest Yard (original)

However, the otherwise hokey "The Replacements" has some of the best one-off quotes.
"I look like I just jacked off an elephant."
"Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory lasts forever."
Besides, Brooke Langton was hot.

So.....Rocky won the Best Picture Oscar.....but I don't know that it's a sports movie as much as its a love story.

I'm going with.....

Hoosiers
Bull Durham
Bad news bears

Almost agree totally. I like Slap Shot over Bull Durham. Breaking Away was a close runner up.
