Gray is to east-west as opposed to north-south right now. She has reverted back to dribble dribble.

Perfect game plan, perfectly executed! Props to Dawn.

The most important player of the game, especially during the first half? The GOAT herself, DT! She got the ball inside to Griner time after time, setting the tone for the entire game, and finished the game with the team high for assists. Not that Lawson gave her a word of credit for any of it.

It was the kind of inside game that UConn tried to play against Arizona, but couldn't. That's because they didn't play that way during the regular season, when Liv was loitering around the high post like some kind of passing specialist. Strong inside play can't be turned on like a light switch. it must be cultivated.

If she's healthy, I fully expect DT will be in Paris. The mere presence the GOAT brings is as important a factor as any other for Team USA.

They started talking about who will replace D and Sue. I don't see Gray as the point. She doesn't have the pure point guard intuitive control of the game although she did play very well in the event and may have the seniority bumping rights.

I really see Paige and Clark as the future there with Paige as the heir apparent. She just has that certain sense of the game the great ones have, the ability to see things in slow motion.

I also think that Wilson has shown herself to be one of the world's greatest players who will only improve and 3 years from now will be incredible, not to mention Stewie and Griner.

Will Paige be too young and too inexperienced in 3 years for international play? Was she last year for college basketball?

Lawson didn't even mention what she was doing "to"the game not "in" the game because she effected it in a fundamental way with her passing., whether direct or secondary to the basket. 7 points, 8 assists and 6 boards is very solid but you are right, it is a presence thing and I don't know if it is conscious or not but Kara can't go there.

Those last three minutes with the subs was hard to watch, but man the starters (plus Loyd and Gray) for team USA showed up and dominated! 7th straight!
Makes me a little concerned for the next Olympics team....not to name names, but we are going to need help in the backcourt.

This Gold Medal puts us in a first place tie with China for 38 Gold medals. It seems the last event (Womens Volleyball) with US vs Brazil can break the tie. The game is on USA at 12:30 EST. Lets take it.

Griner and Wilson were unstoppable, Stewart was everywhere, and DT played an incredible all around game. The US brought the intensity from the get go.

Gray has proven she belongs and will likely be the starting PG if/when Bird hangs it up. I was surprised that Loyd was not a bigger presence for the team, they will need her big time in the future.

I do think that Plum and Gray from the 3x3 team could find rules on a future USA 5x5 team.

What a fun game. During times in this game we see Japan pressing - playing as physical as they can on the perimeter with complete desperation attempting to rattle Bird, DT and Stewart ----to no avail. The pantheon of some of UCONN’s all-time greats holding up no matter how many players Japan tried to throw at them.

For me—special shout-out to DT. She’s banged up pretty good – and really can’t shoot close to her capabilities due to the injury. But we’ve seen ever since she came to UCONN this style of getting up on her – trying to force turnovers—it’s futile to try even at her age and even in the future. She always has been too powerful and she never seems to ever get ahead of herself trying to slither between players. SO even though shot was gone – big deal. She was enormous. Some of the other Team USA guards really get bothered physical play. DT NEVER has. In part that’s why the terrific resistance Japan out up by wheeling in so many players and trapping etc. was futile. This Pantheon Three was never going to get rattled. The only way they were losing was if Japan shot some absurd percentage from 3.

Don't agree with this take at all. I think it's way off base. You're not winning FF games using Liv as top target inside scorer. There is an enormous difference between the offensive capabilities of Griner and Wilson vs Liv.

There's also a US boxer, Keyshawn Davis, fighting for gold at 1:15 a.m. ET. But he's facing a very tough opponent he's never beaten before.

I disagree about Gray. She dribbles too much and is not the kind of assist maker a point guard needs to be, but in 3 years P.G. will be available. I was surprised Diggins' game did not show up.
