We'll come up with a thousand excuses but he was UConn's to lose last summer and fall and they managed to do just that.
Are we just guessing here or is Stone's decision 99% confirmed?

I he picks Maryland it's strictly Under Armour. Do we have any grads launching multi-billionaire shoe/apparel companies?

What do you think was the cause? Simply the lack of a big time closer or other issues?

What happened with UConn and Stone? Many months ago it seemed like we were in the drivers seat and now we're just an afterthought, our recruiting really needs to be fixed ASAP.

Unless you say it was our loaded roster or a sneaker company, people get huffy here.

But they're just not good at getting kids to 'yes'.

There are going to be a certain number of kids who come right down to it and think they like UConn, but no way are they playing in the AAC - and maybe that happened with Stone. But they've lost kids to lesser leagues than the Big Ten and in the case of Mack or Jones, they were simply outworked.

I'm not being snarky, but what does being "outworked" entail?

I just cant see Stone going to Maryland. Maybe if they were still in the ACC but being in the Big Ten and spurning the Badgers to go to a conference foe just doesn't seem to be something Stone would do.

Now if there is something with UA going on that is believable. This recruitment is far from over as things are always changing. Hopefully things start to swing back in our favor.

It seems like every other top program has a shark recruiter on the staff. It makes zero sense that we don't have one, especially considering our conference situation.

I mean this in all sincerity, but that's the most logical statement I've read concerning why Stone would NOT end up at Maryland. That being said, I think your second point is more of a contributing factor than the first. I'm still going to continue to cross my fingers for UConn though.

I agree, if sneakers weren't such a big influence. The University of Md is in a terrible location. The wrong county in Md. The surrounding area is desolate.

Passion sells. JC was a good closer because he was so passionate.

KO has a personality that is very attractive but they need to keep his number of contacts with recruits down so he's not worn out and can be present at the close with peak passion. It seems like he has to do too much of the recruiting work, and he may not be able to generate believable passion when it's time to close.

I agree with Fishy, we need a recruiting specialist on the staff. The veteran players become coaches seem to duplicate each others' backgrounds and personalities a little too much.

I stayed in college park for a weekend back when I was an undergrad at UConn...You're correct. Beautiful campus, but if you step one foot outside it is the hood. I was in a Baskin Robbins that was held up for ice cream..S@%& you not

Maryland is a great choice. They're winning this year and he'll be set up with under armor. Can't blame him for going there

We need a recruiting specialist ast coach. Uk, zona, unlv, Florida, ku all have one..

I have to agree. To Many unexplained reasons to lose recruits to the likes of UNLV and U of Richmond.

Wisconsin fans @ Diamond Stone: "Please stay home and play here for us. Look how well Kaminsky has developed and how good our coaches and conference are."

Maryland fans @ Diamond Stone: "Please come here and help us continue to build our increasingly strong team with our great coaching staff in our new great conference with the support of our sneaker partner Under Armour."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UConn fans: "Why would he want to come here? Our conference sucks, our team sucks, our coaching staff sucks and we already have someone playing his position."

We are nothing if not a great sales brochure here.

Not at all. It's our conference and our coaching staff's fault. You, zls, '99 and the other pros here have told us so. We might as well tweet it at the kid. The self-loathing here is so attractive.

Maybe we can scare off those scrubs Adams and Enoch while we're at it. I mean, how good can these kids be if they have committed to this dumpster fire? The only reason we have them is because they are local and there was no other competition. Once they figure out that KO only had success last year because he chaperoned JC's players, they'll probably decommit anyway. Might as well hasten the inevitable.
