Not trying to be too much of a homer but I actually think we can win it again with our talent and coaching staff. I put our chances at 50/50 not 75/1 like Vegas has us.

Only if most of the world ignores and picks against us this year as in '11 and '14.

Sure we have a chance but 50/50?!??

We win a championship every 3-4 years, and we're more talented on paper next year. Am I really being that unrealistic? Not exactly going out on a limb here

Right now most would have UK, Zona, Duke or Wisconsin as the favorite. I think UConn could beat any of those teams if things click. UConn could also lose in the first round. Next year should be almost as open as last year (with 10-15 teams with a shot at winning it all). There isn't a UK 2013 dominant team out there.

@huskiesnyc You're crazy if you think this team has more talent than last season.

Last time I heard that? 2012 after losing Kemba.

Side note, love your avi - is that a poster, or a flag and where can I get it?

. . . and we're more talented on paper next year.
No. We're not. Do a position by position break down, and tell me I'm wrong. Please start with . . .

14 Napier>15 Paper Boatright
14 Boatright>15 Paper Purvis/Cassel/Samuel

. . . if you want to be taken seriously.

Unless you are giving high marks to 6 virtual unknowns - Cassel, Purvis, Lubin, Facey, Hamilton, Calhoun.

In which case, I'm more handsome than Brad Pitt. On Paper.

It's pretty hard for a team to repeat after losing its best player ... especially when the best player was also a point guard. And that's without even considering Giffey's and Daniels' departures.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would be wise to temper your expectations considering the way things went in 2011-12.

No. You don't lose the best player in college basketball, a senior pg no less, and get better. I don't care how many guys you bring in.

Will be more than happy to be proved wrong however. I just have shades of 2012 dancing across my eyes. We won't have those chemistry problems of course.

It is too soon to know how good we are going to be. How could it not be? We aren't even practicing yet.

That said. Purvis isn't a complete unknown. I think DHam shows enough upside that he'll likely be a factor. Nolan is bigger, Amida's got a year of experience under his belt. Both Nolan and Amida were effective at the end of the year. Ollie has turned out to be a decent game coach.

To me the big question is chemistry. We've got some pieces but we don't how they are going to fit? I have enough faith in Ollie to think he'll get them playing together, so I feel like we'll be decent.

Playing the year after a national championship is like playing with the casino's chips. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy.

What a loser mentality. I was confident we would win the National Championship before last season and considering we've won over 26% of the NC's over the past 15 years I KNOW I'm realistic. 50% isn't exactly going out on a limb when you win 1 in 4. So much defeatist mentality on this board, I have to wonder how much that carries over to your professional lives.

This means that you would accept an even-money bet on UConn winning the title. I love the glass half-full mentality, but I would have to take the field over UConn in this scenario..

That said, 75/1 does seem overly long in my view. To your point about us being "better" than last year, I put my $50 down at 85/1 during the summer of 2013, so I suppose there is at least a potential shred of truth to your position based upon the implied view of oddsmakers this season versus last!

Two things: Almost every team that makes the Final Four loses its best player, and often more, the following year, but it's hardly unusual for the blueblood programs, which Uconn is at this point, to make it back to the Final Four twice in a row. And Uconn has a pretty damn good record when they get there...
Secondly, Boatright isn't the same player as Shabbaz, but he's a helluva lot more prepared to take over as the floor general of this team than than Shabbaz was as a sophomore (the year after Kemba left). Whatever the deficiencies of this year's team, I doubt point guard is going to be one of them.

I just hope people won't be asking for Ollie's resignation being that he probably will not have as much success next year. Talent doesn't always win Championships, its shots like Brimah's, injuries (i.e. uk, isu, etc.), and even missing a ton of free throws (i.e. uk), that can make the difference.

Hell in 2011, arizona's last second shot was a great looking shot. . . . . . . . . especially for us.

I won't call it luck but something similar along those lines.

Not trying to be a homer, but I'm thinking we may never lose again, now that Coach Ollie is LOCKED IN. Every year's team will be more talented than the prior year's team and will also have MORE HEART. Coach Ollie will never leave because he LOVES UCONN and NO JOB IN THE WORLD COULD BE BETTER.

I'm getting a "UCONN HUSKIES NATIONAL CHAMPIONS 2014-2072" tattoo on my lower leg. Both lower legs. WHO'S WITH ME???????????? (Besides huskiesnyc, I mean.)

2016 is our next crack at it. This years team will have growing pains, be up and down, make the tourney, and probably bow out in the sweet 16.
