#9 Oregon at Portland (11p, live stream)

Appears Cochrane won't get to play against her former team.

The Pilots are still waiting to hear from the NCAA on the eligibility of Oregon transfer Lucy Cochrane, a 6-5 sophomore forward and former U17 Australian National Team member. (source)

Creighton at South Dakota State (7p, ESPN3)

Creighton could easily start the season 0-3. Already have tough losses to Drake and Northern Iowa.

Apparently not.

.

Per Stanford's release: "Additional scheduling updates for the Cardinal's upcoming homestand will be provided as they become available."

Creighton's senior point guard (Tatum Rembao) has been sidelined by covid protocol. They have two other returning starters but otherwise are young and inexperienced. They relied so heavily on Jaylyn Agnew last year (21 ppg) and it would've been hard enough even with Rembao on the court. An opening slate of Drake at home and then Northern Iowa and South Dakota State on the road isn't exactly a soft entry.

It's been all South Dakota against Gonzaga so far, 27-12 at the 2Q media timeout. The Zags look flat after their tough loss to South Carolina yesterday, and the extra day of rest seems to be helping the Yotes.

Gonzaga didn't even hit double figures until halfway through the 2nd quarter. For USD, Liv Korngable may be emerging as a star for them in her senior season; she has 9 points so far on 4-4 FG plus 3 assists.

Wild momentum swings in this one. Gonzaga chipped away at the lead in 3Q and then stormed ahead in 4Q, leading by as much as 7 with 4:00 to go. Then USD mounted a comeback of its own, pulling back to within 1 but missing its chances to tie or take the lead, failing to capitalize on a 3-1/2-minute scoreless stretch by Gonzaga.

The Zags iced the game with 7 points on FTs in the last 30 seconds, including 6-6 by Jill Townsend.

Townsend and Korngable finished with 20 each, and I heard both were named to the all-tournament team.

In another tussle between notable mid-majors, James Madison is trying to mount an epic comeback against Buffalo.

Buffalo led 57-24 at halftime, but JMU outscored them 27-6 in 3Q to cut the lead to 12. Should be a fun 4th quarter.

Edit to add: JMU cooled off and Buffalo held on comfortably for an 80-64 win. Dyaisha Fair had 27 points on a high-volume 11-27 FG shooting, plus 9 assists and 7 rebounds. Her teammate, Hanna Hall, added 24 points and 5 rebounds. JMU is a young team and was led in scoring by two sophomores and a freshman.

Doug Bruno's De Paul Demons scored a measly 128 points against the Chicago State Cupcakes. The De Paul bench scored a paltry 55 points.

Yiiiiikes!

A bit of sad news in relation to DePaul, which I just found out:

Fredrickson was projected to be a major contributor for DePaul, which could certainly use more size.

I thought that Buffalo could be good this year, but I'm still surprised at how they hammered James Madison 80-64 even without a stalwart in Summer Hemphill. Does anyone have an ETA on Hemphill's return to the court for Buffalo? Dyaisha Fair is a name to remember folks as she will provide serious competition for Mid-Major Player of the Year, Scoring Leader of the Year and many more awards. Just a cool 29 points and 9 assists to go along with 7 rebounds for her campaign kickoff event.

I'm impressed that Gonzaga found a way to win against the Yotes after being down big early, but a 16-2 run in the 4th Quarter will help you win most games as Gonzaga eked out a close one. Townsend and Truong combined for 32 points in a lowscoring affair as Gonzaga eked one out 54-50. I can't decide if scoring is up or down this year when I look at what Syracuse did against Stony Brook, Arizona State, and now this game compared to DePaul, Stanford, South Carolina all being in triple digits.

Clemson is 3-0, but they actually trailed Charlotte with 4:43 to go in the 4th quarter. That's not a promising sign as ACC play is around the corner.

It's not on Plebe's list of approved games, but Macee Williams of IUPUI is warming up for Notre Dame by going off against Ball State with a scorching 20 points and six rebounds in a half. I miss the days when Ball State was dancing and knocking off teams.

The Jackrabbits are off to the races with a 40-24 lead over Creighton after a close 1st Quarter midway through the 3rd. Burkhard in foul trouble though with 3 fouls, but Selland having herself a nice game.

Ole Miss opens the season today. Interested in how those freshmen and Austin look
I think people might be underestimating how improved they could possibly be. They definitely have more talent.

I didn't exactly say it, but that was my point. 0-3 wouldn't be a reflection of their quality as a team, just that they had 3 tough games to start.

South Dakota State has methodically blown the game open over Creighton, currently on a 22-5 run to lead by 15 in mid-3Q. Myah Selland has 12 points and 8 rebounds. Now that I'm seeing her for the first time this season, she has clearly worked on her fitness and trimmed down noticeably from last year.

Creighton is still missing their point guard, out due to COVID protocol.

Ha I can't list every game, and as @triaddukefan is well aware, additions are always welcome! IUPUI was a nice story last year, winning the Horizon tournament to earn their first-ever NCAA bid -- and with a sad ending in that they were denied the chance to play the tournament.
