Well if his tactics were to play all defensive he just got a nice gift of that early goal so they can now just sit back and defend.

However, they've had plenty of other chances so they might not just sit back.

Yeah, it looks a little more aggressive than I had originally imagined. We've had some more chances too. Still, that goal hurts. Lets see where wee go from here...

That's not Beasley's fault. He's fronting the shot and passing him off. It looked like it was Acosta who didn't slide with him on the replay...
It's a known thing that you don't give a player his strong foot that close to goal, especially a player with the ability that Vela has. Beasley has to be on his body, gave him too much room to shoot, but yes, there should be help as well.

You have to front the shot and carry him to the next man. It then becomes the next man's responsibility. It doesn't matter which foot the forward is on, the process is the same...

I have less doubt then ever that Guzan is going to cost us the game.

Wide open game, Gonzalez needs to connect on one of those headers.

You don't give a guy his strong foot, never. Gave him too much space to let him cut inside and didn't close out at all.

Acosta and Cameron (late getting back and ran right by the man who scored) were to blame for the goal.

That said, I'm sold on Acosta.

Playing a 5-4-1 as a 5-2-2-1 and it seems to be working. Bruce still playing for a late US goal to decide the points.

Does that mean we see Dempsey late?

I think almost certainly we'll see Dempsey for Arriola in the second half. I'm guessing somewhere around the 65th minute...

Maybe for Wood.

Could be. I just don't think Arriola will stay in there, especially after the yellow card. By the way, Cameron is playing one hell of a game tonight...

Looks like Nagbe for Arriola. I'm a big fan of his so I like the move. Now I'm not sure we'll see Dempsey, unless it's very late, maybe after the 80th minute...

True, I've never seen him play this well for Stoke.

His play in the center of a 3-man defensive line makes me think that we could make the 3-5-2 work very well. I'm not talking "Italy level" well, but something we could go to...

Well, I suppose I owe Arena somewhat of an apology. While the starting lineup and formation were both extremely strange, they ultimately produced the desired result. The second half was a great deal more defensive, likely by design. We were a crossbar away from losing; a post away from winning.

I still would have liked to have attacked more with a more aggressive lineup, but the goal is to qualify...
