Is it just me or is he pitching Coe maybe just a bit much? Couldn't we use someone who can gain some valuable experience in this situation.

I don’t get this at all. O.K., they pitched him once on his throw day because he had been in a slump and it was a huge OOC game against a Big XII team in Storrs. But they need to do it again? Against Hofstra? I hope they don’t burn him out physically and/or mentally, but there has to be a reason that every college team doesn’t pitch a starter twice a week every week.

Agree, not sure if Schild is still hurt, but why not him or even Ellisen to get him right again.

Maybe he’s on a pitch count. Maybe it’s a staff day. Who knows? But we have one of the best college pitching coach in the business. Maybe he knows a thing or two?

Yeah, I'd like to give weekday starts to possible future starters. Still, I trust that the coaching staff knows what it is doing.

Today is Coe's normal pitch day between his starts on the weekends.

Coe’s a very short-timer today per Jonesy. It’s a throw day - don’t expect him to be on the mound long.

Top 2nd, leadoff batter gets on base due to an error on Broadhurst. After a 2 out single, a double drives in a run. 1-0 Hofstra.

Another single drives in 2 more runs, 3-0 Hofstra. The runner at 1B is picked off and thrown out trying to reach 2B for the final out of the inning.

Bottom 2nd, first 2 UConn batters reach base. Dalena follows with an RBI single driving in a run and putting runners on the corners with no out. 3-1 Hofstra.

Hyde puts down a 1 out bunt, all runners including Hyde are safe and a run scores. 3-2 Hofstra.

Simmons follows with a 1 out walk to load the bases. Shpur follows with a 1 out RBI single to tie the game at 3. The next batter Tammaro is hit by a pitch which brings in a run, and gives UConn a 4-3 lead.

A sac fly by Broadhurst, 5-3 UConn. Shpur and Tammaro execute a double steal moving them both into scoring position. Morton drives in 2 runs with a single, he advances to 3B on an error. 7-3 UConn. Padilla follows with a 2 out RBI single, 8-3 UConn. And Dalena follows with a 2 run homer, 10-3 UConn.

Bottom 3rd, Simmons with a 1 out walk (his 2nd walk of the game), Shpur follows with a single, Simmons scores on an error by the CF and Shpur ends up at 3B. 11-3 UConn.

A double play ends the inning.

Bottom 5th, a 1 out double for Simmons and Shpur follows with a walk. They execute a double steal, and then Tammaro drives them both in with a 1 out double, 13-3 UConn. Once again in a couple innings we might see if the mercy rule is in effect for this game.

Morton follows with a 2 out RBI double, 14-3 UConn.

Ellisen takes the mound in the top of the 6th, and Kron replaces Morton in LF.

Chris Jones sounding like the mercy rule might be in effect for this game.
