Some observations from the game....
When Ishikov doesn't play it's noticeable. The kid is so dynamic with the puck compared to anyone else we have. We definitely would have won last night if he was healthy, especially considering the fact Providence's defense is so bad that they gave us maybe 4 mini-breakaways. Of course we converted on none of them. Maybe if Ishikov was playing we net one of those. And as bad as our PP is with him, without him, just don't even bother watching it. We hit the pipe once too on a PP but oh well.
Vomacka made some big saves but also gave some horribly weak goals. His 5-hole was a mess. He's gotta clean that up. Granted one of the goals he gave up had 3 providence players in the goal crease and one of them hanging on the net and dislodging it a split second after the goal crossed but still. Gone are the NHL days where you had to stay completely clear of the crease. Now you can set up a tailgate there as long as you aren't hitting the goalie apparently.
Turnbull had a hell of a game. Quick wrister over the shoulder off the faceoff, and a quick burst across the goal mouth.
Our play in our defensive end is tough to watch as well. There was a moment during a Providence line change where we possess the puck near Vomacka, and have 3 other players in the defensive end compared to one Providence skater......and it took us 20 seconds to get the puck out of our end. WTF????
Regardless, we got a point. I won't be greedy - if we get another point tonight it will a very successful weekend IMO. Gotta get Ishikov back though.
