The Official 2025 NY Jets thread

They signed an UDFA QB. And the only criticism I heard was they didn’t go DL in a great DL draft but that’s a strong suit for them so I don’t think that’s a big deal.

Now it’s time to see what the regime can do building a broken culture.

They obviously knew this going into the draft. Seems odd they didn’t draft a QB.

Awful news for him. But reading his retirement letter…he seems like he has a good head on his shoulders and is at peace with the decision.

OK…offseason camps are over.

I am really enjoying the Glenn regime so far. While Saleh had a lot of cute slogans, the players seem to be respecting Glenn’s no nonsense approach.

I am really really enjoying Rodgers’ absence. While at the barber, I saw an ESPN chyron stating “Rodgers calls out Jets dysfunction”. Dude…you went on vacation during mini camp last year…you publicly called out your wide receivers. While Saleh had his issues, Rodgers was part of the problem.

The obvious biggest question is the offense. I think Glenn and WIlks will have the defense in good shape. If the O line stays healthy, it will be a strength. The RB group is solid..and Fields ability to run will only help them. If Mason Taylor is as advertised, they should be ok at TE. Huge question mark at WR. Beyond WIlson…who knows. Maybe they can find a veteran to play WR2 in preseason camp.

I am the eternally optimistic Jets fan who is ready to be disappointed and frustrated again…lol.

You mean the Rodgers who may or not be married?

I like what the new regime is doing. Signing Wilson and Sauce to long term extensions is exactly what needed to happen before camp. No contract distractions for two of their best players. And…these are high character guys…the kind you want as the cornerstone of the franchise.

In general…I was not a fan of Douglas…but he did nail that draft with Gardner, Wilson, Johnson and Hall.

Of Hall, Sauce and Wilson I wanted Sauce and Wilson to get the bag and I love the way this group did it. Nothing public. No drama. Locked up. Ugh this team is pulling me in.

I'm really starting to feel for Jets fans. Prior to Bob Kraft, the Patriots cycled through bad owner/front office personnel after the next and I wouldn't wish the fortunes of the Daniel Snyder era on anyone...other than the Giants.

But the Jets situation right now is not much better than any of those. If there is a silver lining, the Jets will most likely have a single digit draft pick in April and be in contention for Arch Manning.

Looks like Fields will be recovered by week 1.

Yeah…dislocated toe. Glad to hear is isn’t too bad…but it’s not great he is missing camp and valuable reps.

So…now he will start the season behind the 8 ball…with an excuse as to why he will struggle.

Regarding Manning being a top pick. I need to see him play a little before that is a reality. He was a backup to a 7th round pick last season.

Peyton Manning went back to Tennessee for his senior year rather than go to the Jets. No way they let Arch go to that loser franchise.

It wouldn't surprise me if they tried to maneuver him to New Orleans somehow. Full circle to his grandfather's team.

Ok…time for a doom post.

After 2 preseason games, the Jets QB situation doesn’t look good….short term or long term. Unless Glenn is just being super cautious in pre-season, Fields isn’t throwing the ball more than 10 yards. Wilson hasn’t caught a pass in either game. And…Taylor is out for the rest of pre-season. Considering it’s the Jets…who knows when he will actually be available.

The Jets are one hard tackle from having their below average QB knocked out and Adrian Martinez being their starting quarterback.

I was concerned when they didn’t use a draft pick for a QB and now that looks really bad. UFA Cook has not looked good at all.

Before the draft, I heard Charlie Weis with Cimini saying that Jaxson Dart was the real deal and the Jets should consider drafting him. At the time, the idea of drafting Dart that high in the first round seemed crazy. People also thought drafting Nix in 2024 that high was crazy, but apparently Payton knows how to spot a QB. Dart looks like the real deal.

Unfortunately the Jets don’t know how to spot a qb…let’s hope Fields is not as bad as he has looked so far. What I fear is that they will just give up on the passing game completely and start running Fields more and more. Then…he gets injured…and the Jets starter will be someone like Trevor Siemian…again.

I’m right with you. This week they have worked out a few real retread bums and I just know one of them will be the starting quarterback by week 3 or 4.

They’re going to 16-13 themselves to a 8-10 record and out of range for a franchise qb next draft so you’re looking at least two seasons of Justin Fields.

That’s exactly what they will do…play well enough to not get a good draft pick. I can see Fields getting injured and missing the first half of the season…then he comes back and looks “ok” and wins enough games to get them to 6 wins and the #12 pick in the draft. Not high enough to draft a top QB…so they run it back with Fields again.

I do like what Glenn and Mougey have done so far to fix the culture, I just worry that once again they have failed in fixing the QB issue..both short term and long term. Right now, I think the Giants have 3 quarterbacks better than any Jets QB…and all 3 were picked up this offseason. How does that happen?

I’m not going to give any credit towards fixing the culture until I see a .500+ season and a playoff appearance. Every new regime gets the preseason hype from the media on changing the culture.

As I have said….I like Glenn…I think he has the right attitude to be the Jets coach. But, I am disappointed with his response to questions about Fields and the passing game. He conveniently forgets that Fields has a historically shaky track record as a passer. There is a reason he is on his third team. So when he looks bad against a bad secondary, it’s fair to ask questions. This isn’t a one time thing with Fields.

Hopefully this isn’t a sign that Glenn is going to be thin skinned. That won’t work well in NY.

The NY media is going to put him to the test because this offense, specifically the passing offense, is going to be pretty boring and low scoring. As Saleh found out you can only say “We are working on it. We have to do better” for so long.

And I can’t help thinking we should have made a move to get Jaxson Dart.

That’s what I said a few posts ago. Maybe push to re-sign Moses for RT, pass on Membou, and pick Dart.

That would probably be too aggressive of a move for a first time GM. Payton did it with Nix, but he had people’s trust.

Of course if Dart came to the Jets…he would have torn his achilles by now…lol.

Obviously! LOL

Nobody knows how to ruin QBs quite like the Jets. It does look like a good QB draft next year.

I will add they also just have bad luck with injuries..Pennington, Testaverde, Favre, Geno Smith, Rodgers.

I was looking at ESPN’s 2026 mock…and you are right…lots of qbs in the first round. Much better QB draft than this year.

I guess the Jet’s logic…low risk contract with Fields…probably won’t work out with him, but it sets them up to draft a qb in 2026 who will play behind an OL with 3 #1 picks and a #2 pick. Fields can hang around as backup in 2026…or start the season and phase in #1 pick.

Of course I am rooting for Fields to surprise us all.

It just sucks that this season can quickly turn into another”playing for a draft pick” year.

Through my 50 years of torture and misery and disappointment, I see the next 3-5 years as....

1) Fields is a below average (cheap) stopgap answer. He is either hurt in spots (and we have Taylor or worse starting a good chunk of games) or he is a game manager in a low scoring RPO offense.
2) If their OL and defense can flourish and they do better than expectations, then Glenn is safe and they roll the dice drafting a 1st rd QB. That QB then has 3 years to prove himself (a la Darnold or Z Wilson).
3) If Glenn isn't the guy and doesn't last past 3 years? That new young QB has to learn a new HC and OC after 1-2 years in the league. That's been the issue with a lot of young Jets QBs.

If I had to bet? Glenn lasts 4-5 years. They don't draft the franchise QB they need and we're back to right here in the same spot in 2030 and I'm 63 at that point.
