I guess it can't hurt, but he's been a barely above average hitter since July 1 so I don't think it's a great option. He's just not good enough though to be a main piece of the lineup

But … as mentioned there is no obvious clean up man. Vientos was who we were hoping could hit 3 or 4 but he’s not lived up to the hope this year at all. Nimmo is fine but not as a 4.
In a way Soto leading off isn’t bad-he has the highest on base and that’s the job of the lead off man - but again - who bats 4th? Vientos struggling really has been a major blow to the line up.
It’s uncanny how bad this line up has been at times. Lindor, Pete, McNeil, Nimmo, Soto - over half the line up are proven major league bats. Vientos was fantastic last year. Alvarez hit more home runs than any rookie catcher not named Johnny Bench 2 years ago. How is this offense so average/below average?
Idk what the answer is, and as questionable as the starting pitching is - the pen gives us an escape route there most nights. The issue with this team right now is offense. We can’t score runs consistently.

Huge series this weekend vs Milwaukee. They better get right quick or they could be in some trouble. They then have Atlanta coming in to Citi later in the week.
Saw some noise about Soto being a driver in the lack of heart on this team and that he's not playing as seriously or as "hard" as he's being paid. I tend to drown that out most of the time, but I don't have an explanation of how the magic of last year is just nonexistent this year.

Soto being who Soto is…… All that has happened is that both New York baseball teams stink. Not sure how either team buys their way out of bad organizational culture.
What a huge disappointment for fans of both teams.
Red Sox trade their best player an immediately get better. Culture does matter.

I hate to say this but I'm starting to turn on Soto this season.
He gives off Carlos Beltran vibes. Puts up good numbers but just doesn't "look" like the leader of anything. Plays relatively emotionless and, maybe it's just a stupid feeling, but you want to see your big money guy look like he cares all the time and I don't see it a lot.

His stats are great. For me it’s not the “what” it’s the “how”.
I'm in the middle on that. I think Soto is obviously someone you want on your team. Dude just gets on base. He has power to all parts of the field. Always gives a professional at bat. He has a presence that intimates at times, also can only help whoever is hitting in front of him with him sitting back there behind them and certainly has helped with Alonso's RBI numbers because he is always on base.
BUT...yeah no way he's worth that kinda money relative to his peers. He does give off a bit of a "too cool", he's fine jogging out grounders and isn't a natural leader the way Lindor is. At least it looks that way on the outside.
I'm not turning on him or the idea of him at all. It's year 1, and June certainly showed us what he is capable of doing. We need that version of him more often for sure, but he's not the problem - or not the entire problem. Lindor is my favorite Met, but he is in one major slump right now at the dish. Nimmo has been a strike out machine. The 'baby Mets' (Baty, Vientos, Alvarez and Mauricio) have been M.I.A. for the most part all year.
Hopefully last night was a spark for Alvarez and that's closer to the version of him we'll get down the stretch. He can be a spark for this team. He's the only guy that really plays with a chip on his shoulder and with fire. That kind of energy can be infectious, we need him hitting the long ball or getting clutch hits to keep that fire burning. Vientos is probably the biggest hole in what we projected our line up to be before the season. I thought going into the season the line up should be something like :
Lindor
Soto
Alonso
Vientos
Nimmo
McNeil
Alvarez
Marte/Winker
Siri/Taylor
Or maybe have Vientos 2nd and Soto 3rd. If Vientos was hitting .250-.270 and had 20+ homers right now all the sudden this line up is a lot longer. Not having a 3rd baseman who can hit is killing the line up.
Besides our issues hitting ... man this staff has hit a wall big time. If I was the coach I'd move Holmes to the pen as the long man or use him as a starter for a bull pen game. Max him out at 3 innings from now on. Montas...I mean the pen and use him in non leverage situations. Bring up the 2 rookies and see if they provide a spark. Heck at this point I'd trot Blackburn over Montas. Manaea and Senga have got to give us something better than what they have been. The pen is rock solid in my opinion, but it's getting burnt out because no one can go 6 innings, heck they cant make it 5 most of the time. It's absurd to ask your pen to go 12+ innings every 3 game series.
It'll be super interesting to see what they do this off season for starting pitching. Do they trust the young guns to fill that void? This roster is in win now mode with Lindor, McNeil and Nimmo all aging out - the pressure is on to improve the rotation.

Again, another absolutely brutal loss. I had some stuff to do around the house and got up when it was 6-0 and came back, my phone had 7 texts and it was 9-6.
Tonight, I'm lucky enough to have tickets to the Cadillac Club in RF. I have been looking forward to this all year and I'm trying to not let the last month/week/day creep into that excitement. I'll take some pics and if you're watching tonight, I'll be the short fat guy in a Mets jersey and shorts with my hands raised against the fence on any play near the club.

Last night was perhaps the worst of all. I mean the entire Brewers series was maddening and we were up 5-1 or 5-0 in one of those too...but geez. The broadcast was burying Cookie alive last night (and rightfully so) about him being washed and clearly at the end of his career and just can't even compete anymore...I was almost feeling sorry for him. It was 6-0 Mets and Cookie was getting destroyed. Looked like batting practice out there. The Braves tossing a guy who should be retired by now, the Mets throwing an All Star. Get him a 6-0 cushion .. it looked like we finally had a situation where a starter could work beyond 5 innings...MAYBE get through 6 and then the bottom just completely fell out.
4 walks in an inning is nuts, especially with a 6-0 lead going into the inning. It's mind boggling what is going on with the staff right now. No lead is safe. I used to think a "Quality Start" was a pretty low bar and nothing to really brag about or hold up as some great feat (3 ER or less over 6+ innings), but I'd do unspeakable things for a quality start about right now.
Mets starters have pitched the fewest innings in baseball over the last 2 months.
Tonight, once again, it's a fantastic match up on paper. The Braves throwing a guy with a 6+ era (8+ era over his last 7 outings) and we have Senga on the bump. We could get up 10-0 in the first and I will spend the rest of the game on pins and needles wondering when the rug gets pulled out from under us. (Most likely it happens in the 4th inning).

Review of the Cadillac Club.
The experience is top notch and classy. You enter in through a speakeasy entrance and are greeted by a bartender taking your drink order. You walk through a hallway into the space and it's really something. There's a popcorn machine, hot dog station and all sorts of snack concessions off to the side. A huge, very nice bar space with features like the ability to get a smoked bourbon/old fashioned.
The food spread was roast porchetta, pasta, caesar salad and chicken parm on one side and ball park fare on the other - chicken wings/tenders, soft pretzel bar bites, fries, etc. The seating is cooled leather chairs with your own TV, wireless charger and chilled cup holder. Throughout the game, waiters walk by with mozz sticks, chicken skewers, chocolate chip cookies and ice cream in mini helmets.
That said? It's boring. No one stands and cheers. You feel super isolated from the rest of the park. Can't see the scoreboard. Very antiseptic and corporate. Almost didn't feel like you were AT the game but in a really nice bar watching it. It was cool that the bullpen is right next to it and seeing Helsey and Diaz enter to their songs that close up at that level was pretty sweet.
All in all? A fun, new experience. Definitely high end. I went for work and the people we took were impressed which served it's purpose. But I'm going tomorrow with my daughter and sitting in CF with the 7 Line Army and looking more forward to that.
