Of course I love our UConn pep band but, speaking objectively, I have to say that Dayton's band "won" the non-existant Battle of the Bands yesterday. Enthusiastic and engaging, the band director managed to coax us UConn fans into doing the Dayton cheers and the kids in the band seemed to love the byplay between fans and musicians.
The band changed funny hats frequntly, wore large toy glasses that they offered to the refs whenever a Dayton player was called for a foul, and chanted "you can't do that!" when Louisville players travelled. Made free throw shots had them standing and doing a pelvic thrust thing that sounds baudier than it looked. And I especially appreciated that they did this with a sense of humor and in good fun rather than being taunting or obnoxious.
Any other great bands out there yesterday?
