Damn, that's actually a decent hire.
Recruiting wise. Duke's a machine and will probably still recruit just fine.Recruiting wise or X’s and O’s? Now will we see Dukes recruiting go down?
Didnt do so hot when coach K was out last year either. I guess well see how good he is in a couple of years once they finally get some experienced players (under Capel.)Great when he had Blake Griffin...but outside of that...13-18 then 14-18 in his last two seasons...two of the worst back to back losing seasons in OU history. I'd say more 'meh' than decent. Remains to be seen.
Dare I say Ollieesque, without a national title to hang your hat on.Great when he had Blake Griffin...but outside of that...13-18 then 14-18 in his last two seasons...two of the worst back to back losing seasons in OU history. I'd say more 'meh' than decent. Remains to be seen.

awful hire. don't get the hype behind Capel at all. He was mediocre at VCU (where everyone seems to win at a high level) and was trash at OU without Blake Griffin.
Career record w/ Blake Griffin: 53-18 (.746 win%) -- 2 years and 2 NCAA appearances
Career record w/out Blake Griffin: 122-92 (.570 win%) -- 7 years and 1 NCAA appearance

I mean a lot of those wins were at VCU. At Oklahoma he was 16-15, 14-18 and 13-18 without Blake Griffin.I agree with your overall opinion but there is a lot of programs that dream of .570 WPCT and 1 NCAA appearance
To me, it's really a WTF hire - he's a been there done that - kids don't go to Duke because Capel persuaded them - Puke recruits itself
If I were Pitt, I would go with one of the young up and comings and team him/her up with a vet asst coach
Sounds like KO with and without Shabazz:
w/ Shabazz: 52-18 (.742 win%) -- 2 years and 1 National Championship
w/o Shabazz: 75-61 (.551 win%) -- 4 years and 1 NCAA appearance
When he was at VCU they were in the Colonial League and he did win 2 championships and had them in the tourney twice in 4 years WPCT= .658 I would consider that above mediocre but still agree it's not a really good hire for PittI mean a lot of those wins were at VCU.
