Pericarditis/Dressler Syndrome

My mom had a heart attack two months ago, is in care with a team of Yale doctors, but this is the one mystery that seems to be causing her the most distress.

Basically, she has chest pressure (pericarditis) since the heart attack and is taking medication for it and it's also preventing her from getting exercise and starting rehab, which will make her heart stronger. I drove her back to the ER on Saturday due to chest pain, but it was still just the pericarditis, which is, in a sense, harmless. Different doctors, from the same medical team, are telling her to take different medications, so obviously, since my mom just wants to follow a plan, the lack of clear plan is causing her distress.

Any insight on pericarditis post-heart attack?

First of all, sorry you're going through this and positive wishes for your mother.

I don't know anything about this condition but I can weigh in on Yale. We had an absolutely terrible time there with my dad. He was brought in there to see a specialist who was supposed to be doing some groundbreaking stuff on his condition. There was zero communication between the doctors and his primary doctor seemed totally clueless. They did nothing for him and wound up discharging him so he could basically be comfortable dying at home. The specialist he originally went into the hospital to see called my mom at home to ask where my dad was, my mom told her he was home in their bed and the specialist told her to immediately bring him back to Yale and he never should've been released. This call was the morning of the day my dad died.

I don't like bashing businesses/hospitals/schools but it was the worst experience any of us have ever had. My only advice would be to get a second opinion from a hospital other than Yale.

Sorry to hear this. Worse thing in the world is to love someone and not be able to help them. Hope they can find out the proper course of treatment and she gets better soon.

The only thing I appreciate about Yale NH is that one of the doctors took us aside and explained how the other doctors had royally screwed up.

Very bold move there.

My cousin has it and was part of a clinical trial on a new medication a year or two ago. She made a huge improvement. Hopefully, the medication will be on the market soon.

Sounds like time to change horses. Check out Stamford Hospital and their cardiology work along with Columbia University. They are bringing advanced cardiology thinking and protocols to bear. As recent open heart patient who needed valve replacement and triple bypass surgery I can attest to their approach and capabilities Check out Dr. Coady who co chairs cardiology and is brilliant and special surgeon.

Hey Adrien so sorry for this. Love Yale they saved my Dad in 1971 when he underwent bypass surgery in their newly formed cardiac surgery unit. “Heart attack” and pericarditis would seem to be two different illnesses in the same organ. It must be tough for your Mom getting multiple medical advice. Some one needs to be her medical general contractor

1 question. Did she get the shot? I ask this, because of the number of people who did, many developed this issue, and during the Covid years, there were a number of studies linking the heart issues with the shot. Of course the mainstream media did their best to keep that quiet, but the numbers don't lie.

Also interesting, I had Covid about three weeks ago when that wave was going around everywhere and no one was testing, so I've also thought it this is playing a role with her.
