Paige and some real rest

Trading Paige out of the question because she is so good and the fans love her? Probably...but Dallas is a strange place. The Mavs traded beloved Luka Doncic to the Lakers for a very good but injury prone center. Dallas just traded Micha Parsons, a Hall of Fame caliber defensive player, to the Packers for not too much for no good reason. Never say never.

The NBA experience has shown that trying to put together a "super team" has mixed results. Too many salary and team cohesion issues can arise. Two All- Star caliber players are needed to get to a championship game but adding more stars doesn't necessarily help.
I believe they got an all star tackle and two #1 draft choices for Parsons, who was disgruntled and no longer wanted to play for Dallas. I’m not sure I would call that “for not too much for no good reason!” Yes, he was a great player but he did not want to be there anymore. I think they probably got about as much as they could.

We won’t really know who won that trade for several years. If the Packers tank and those #1s are high choices it could turn out to be a complete game changer for Dallas though generally, trading truly great players ends up being a mistake. Sometimes you do not have a choice. We will see in three or four years.

I am reminded of one of the most lopsided trades in the history of the NFL when Dallas traded Hershel Walker to the Vikings for what turned out to be 5 players who subsequently fueled several of the Cowboys championship runs.

Michael Irvin is not walking through that door, Jimmy Johnson is not walking through that door.

I hear what you're saying now why did Parsons not wanna be there? Jerry Jones running everything has been a dysfunctional mess, he's gonna be trying to showcase Michael, Troy, and Emmitt for the rest of his life. Excellent Netflix documentary btw on the Cowboys.

A franchise like the Packers doesn't tank, they have their franchise qb who they groomed to take over for Aaron Rodgers. Given the circumstances the Cowboys did the right thing. For the Cowboys to not keep their star players something is wrong in that organization, and I don't think it rocket scientist to see who the problem is since the Jimmy Johnson days.

My opinion is tht the best decision tht Jerry Jones made was hiring Jimmy Johnson and the worst was letting Jimmy Johnson go, they could've at least 2 more Superbowls with the team tht they assembled

That is a different argument. My point was merely that he Parsons did not want to be there any more. You won’t get any argument from me on the dysfunction in the Cowboy head office! My point was only that they likely got about as good a deal as they could while avoiding the continuing distraction of a protracted sniping contest between the two parties.

By the way, I don’t think this was all Jones’s fault. It sounds as though Parson’s agent shares much of the blame along with Jones. Which means of course, that Parsons bears some responsibility as well. I used to bleed Cowboy blue back in the triplets days! Once Jimmy Johnson left, it’s been a waking nightmare. I no longer follow them at all.

I just hope the Wings can chart a better path. Paige can take them to the promised land if they just get their ducks in order and surround her with the right players and coach!

Contract negotiations are underway, and I think most of the players have contracts expiring this year and next year. I'm not sure if part of the collective bargaining includes scratching all the current contracts, which would effectively make all players free agents after this season.

The only reason I mention it this way is because I could see a bunch of the "stars" lining up and saying "Hey, I'd like you and you and you to come suit up and play with me at _____". Meaning players like Clark, Collier, Wilson, Stewart, etc. could effectively try to form super teams, or at least hand picked teams, depending on what the new salary cap looks like.

Could you imagine a team with Bueckers, Clark, Collier, Stewart, and Wilson? Doubtful they'd have the salary cap but it will make for interesting discussions...
I doubt any top player is going to come to Dallas if the coach they have is till with the team, even if Paige is recruiting them!!

We will see. Dallas has less talent than Connecticut or Chicago, and basically is even with them, so I'd say it's the Chicago and Connecticut coaches who are sub par.

Obviously, because of their evident lack of cohesiveness, it's easy to put the blame on Koclanes rather than on the injuries or lack of talent or buy-in from the roster, but none of us really know what goes on behind the scenes.
We don't know what players are saying to each other around the league about what the Wings' problems truly are (beyond the lack of seasoned talent on the roster). I have a feeling that these conversations, rather than fans' takes, will be a determining factor in whether free agents will buy in and come to Dallas in 2026.
In any event, we shall see...

I would hope so. 😉

Reading an article about tonight's game:

"Bueckers is being listed on Monday’s report with a left calf concern. ....

Paige Bueckers is currently listed as probable on the injury report with the aforementioned calf injury. Barring any setbacks, it appears that the Wings rookie will be able to play on Monday night in her home state. Lynx and Wings fans are both hopeful she will be available. As mentioned, she is from Minnesota and has no shortage of fans throughout the state."

Last night Paige scored 17 points, 7-14 and 0-1 from 3. She had only 1 rebound and 2 assists. It was a funny game, as Paige wasn't guarded full throttle like the previous games, but she was semi-aggressive in her scoring. She attacked the basket more frequently and made some tough shots, but on the other hand, she took a few shots that were impossible to make. It just seems like she has been told not to take over the game and let the others try to find themselves. Maddy is going crazy and is easily the best player since the all-star break. I don't understand this, but it seems that Grace will not pass Paige the ball when she is open. Possibly the scenario that I just mentioned. Three games left, so I am hoping Paige finishes strong to cement her resumé for ROY. BTW, Christyn played 9 minutes scoring 2 points. She looked pretty good out there.

It seemed to me that Grace was not the only one who would not pass Paige the ball. I don't think Paige likes to play the way the Wings want her to play, fewer assists and too many forced shots.

Paige knows her team mates aren't improving if the aren't shooting. She doesn't want to be a latter day Sisyphus. That boulder never gets lighter.

I have been disappointed in Chris Koclanes since his season kickoff appearance and he hasn't disappointed my disappointment. Yes, I realize that Dallas would not attract a top coach even with Paige coming in. I got curious and picked at his bio. He did 2 years each in 3 college teams as a video guy then jumped to the Sun as a video guy and made an assistant coach in 2019, went to the Sparks in 2023 (said to be following his mentor Kurt Miller) before his big break arrived. Interesting, I never noted 'til today that his big sister Belle,44, joined him as an assistant. Chris says she's been his mentor his whole life imagine being surrounded by 4 sisters). Now she has a boat load of experience:

"Belle is a seasoned coach, having spent more than two decades at the Division I level, including eight years as the head coach of women’s basketball at Dartmouth. She has also served on coaching staffs at American, Old Dominion, Penn, and Columbia. She played professionally in Greece and Bulgaria."

The publicity I've seen labels him a defensive specalist. I think it quite likely Belle came along because this guy's fey manner wasn't going to cut it and he still needed seasoning. She should know what she is doing.

I've see Paige give him looks of the "Oh Lord" variety a few times this season.

This guy is not going to cut it. Who, me, judgmental?
