Very sad news. He was a superb player who did all the team asked of him across multiple roles. His death is a loss to all of us, but mostly his family and friends. A father of two, passing way too early at 57. His family must be devastated. RIP Tim.

In more sad news, Russ Francis has died in a plane crash. My first favorite player for the Patriots.

I had drinks with him once. I had a blast …. I think he did too … by his demeanor , you never would have known he was a pro ball player.

Another Yankee fan here. I thought the world of Tim Wakefield. One of my favorite players.
Yet again, I'm another Yankee fan, but really loved Wakefield as a player. Such a fun pitcher to watch, so versatile and seemed like a great guy.

Link from Florida Tech site.

He was a good hitter in college.

Mr. Wakefield came to Florida Tech in the late 1980s and soon established his athletic acumen. A first basemen on the Panthers baseball team, he was named Most Valuable Player in 1987 as a sophomore and 1988 as a junior. Some of his records still stand, including single season slugging percentage and homeruns in 1987 (.798 and 22, respectively) and his career slugging percentage of .646.
