Got some time with CT native and horse racing expert Acacia Courtney to preview this weekend's Derby for The Connecticut Scoreboard Podcast. Less than 10 mins and you'll be set with picks for Saturday! Who do you guys have? I'm going Hot Rod Charlie 8-1

I like Hot Rod Charlie and Rock Your World.

Hot Rod is in the 10th position, that's won 11.4% of the Derby's, highest for any of the slots. That position is also in the money 30.4% of the time. Flavien Pratt is more than capable.

Rock Your World is in the 16th post so he needs a good start. Good Beyer and Equibase figures and Joel Rosario could be one of the hotter jockeys in the group.

I'll be betting those 1-2 with a mix of Medina Spirit, Mandaloun, Known Agenda and Essential Quality. I won't bet much with Essential Quality. No fun for me to root for at those odds.

And Acacia Courtney is a smoke.

Same 2 I have circled there. Definitely have to keep an eye on Medina Spirit. Never doubt a Baffert horse in the Derby

At the risk of being labeled a hyper-corrector, many favorites have won lately but none of those were "odds-on" favorites. A fave is only odds-on when it's odds are below even money.
