It’s funny I’ve been in Coleman and to say this place will be more intimate is a joke. You are as packed in as possible with no wasted space in there. More modern yes….but they jam 14k or so in a very small amount of room. They have so much money not sure this thing just doesn’t get rubber stamped

That looks awesome, but yeah, why only 10k? I think we were unfortunate with the timing of Gampel and the architectural design. Today everything focuses on design and windows while Gampel is just a concrete cylinder.

Must be nice:

Cameron Indoor seats 8,800...is "intimate"...I like the seats up to the floor....Bama seems to be in that Duke mode.

I wonder how much we would be willing to pay if we built Gampel today. Per wikipedia, Gampel would cost $55mil in 2020 dollars.

I don't think we'd fork out $600 million.

A Gampel pavilion with another 1500-2000 seats would be perfect and negate the need for any XL games.

Also, gymnastics. Another one of those regionalized college sports that has no problem drawing a couple of thousand fans in some parts of this country.

the $600 million includes the golf stuff too, no? How much for UConn to annex Twin Hills or Skungamaug for the golf team?

Thinking out loud. I'd like to see some southern schools (or even southern pro teams) build an arena with the ability to have an outdoor option. Retractable roof or something like that. Like a baseball arena. It'd probably be the coolest basketball arena on the planet.

It might not have all the amenities but when Gampel is rocking it's a great place to watch a game. I just wish I didn't have to drive to the end of the earth to get there. We already have state of the art facilities for training and practice.

Says more than 10k. So, probably 10,001.

-> A few of the specifics according to the plan
  • Capacity: Approximately 10,136
  • Timeframe: TBD
  • Price tag: $183 million
  • Location: Four possible locations were presented, one was preferred.
  • Student seating: Approximately 2,200 student seats to surround 3/4 of the lower-level by the floor.
Byrne said they visited multiple college basketball arenas -- both renovated and new builds for inspiration. That tour included stops at Ole Miss, whose new arena was completed in 2016 and has many design features that also appear in Alabama’s proposed building. Other stops included James Madison, Virginia, Illinois, DePaul and Cincinnati. <-

Yea I struggled to find a way to describe Coleman. It seats so many people yet feels so tiny. Your right on top of everyone else. Best part of this I'd be excited about, student section would be lower bowl, closest to the court - currently it's a only a corner of the stadium.

Not a bad idea. This was a pretty cool location. Gotta account for the wind though.

I always think every arena looks great, when it’s packed to the brim with fans.

Besides XL.
