Read an article (that I can't refind) that the recent dominance of Florida NHL teams is heavily influenced by the tax advantages. This results in teams and players making more money. It is a significant sum and makes Florida more attractive to free agents to play there and for players to want to stay. Not in the article but it got me thinking that the Whalers probably have saved a ton on corporate taxes since their move to North Carolina. And once again their players have some financial advantages over their northern competitors.

It's not the be all, end all. But any competitive advantage teams can gain is meaningful. And money talks.

It's not just the the taxes that attract the players and their families. Living in warm weather during the winter doesn't hurt either. I read that the Panther players can drive to their practice facility in golf carts. Some of the Lightening players drive to the arena on Jet Ski's. They live in warm weather in the winter and then when its summer and really hot in Florida they are off to their summer homes in the northern climate. You can't get better than that. The same is true for the Vegas team.
