The plan calls for $225 million to come from private funds and $225 million from the athletic department, university and other sources.

Don't tell me we can't compete.

Just printing money…

-> The school is in the final stages of work on a new complex, adjacent to Memorial Stadium, that houses the football locker room and will include space for the football offices, training table, weight room and other athletic department purposes. Its cost is $165 million. <-

Nebraska football made a net profit of 65MM. They just spent 165MM on adjacent facilities.

Reducing the capacity by 8 to 10k. The losing must be impacting ticket demand /s
Given that it's not a new stadium and they are upgrading the seats and the concourses, a loss of seats doesnt seem a huge surprise?
80k in Lincoln is still pretty good -- the 4th largest stadium in the BiG

% of Metro Area population needed to fill stadium
  1. PennSt = 67% << yowza!
  2. Iowa = 38%
  3. Mich = 29%
  4. Purdue = 28%
  5. Illinois = 26%
  6. Nebr = 23% (@80k)
  7. MSU = 16%
  8. Wisc = 12%
  9. Rest are 5% or lower

Ha! Could you ever envision a headline like that about a Stadium Renovation Project costing $450M—and it‘s embraced with glee by all the stakeholders? The Rent needs $63M for renovations and the screaming can be heard all the way up here in Boston.
Yeah, but if we had a 60+ season sellout streak the attitude towards renovation costs may be a bit different.
