I'd guess this is related to the Ollie mess

Better be nothing more than what we already self imposed. Would be absolute BS if they do.

So my normal expectation is for NCAA to accept the penalties UConn self-imposed and close the book. Anything beyond that would be ridiculous but not unexpected since Emmert is still there.

I'm guessing no additional penalties. Solely basing this off the fact that Hurley just signed his contract the other day and there were different parts that could be changed based on add'l penalties. Thinking knew nothing else coming if he signed

UConn recruits had video calls with former UConn legends to educate them on the school.

Meanwhile, there is concrete evidence that dozens of schools, (including Duke, LSU, and Arizona) are actively paying their "student athletes."

The NCAA is a joke of an organization. How can anyone even remotely take them seriously at this point?

Borges tweeted out that Hurley said he's glad we can turn the page on the past at 1:00 today. Effectively confirming no additional penalties.

Only additional consequences:

2 years probation
Loss of 1 official visit
Vacation of records (2013 should be safe)

3 year ban (show-cause) for Ollie

>>A former UConn head men’s basketball coach violated NCAA head coach responsibility rules when he failed to monitor his staff and did not promote an atmosphere of compliance, according to a Division I Committee on Infractions panel.

The committee also said the former head coach violated NCAA ethical conduct rules when he knowingly provided false or misleading information during the NCAA enforcement investigation and declined to participate in a second interview with the enforcement staff and school.<<

“Ollie didn’t do anything”

“Pay Ollie is money”

C'mon. This is a classic easy out for the NCAA. Nail the guy who is no longer an NCAA coach and will not ever again be an NCAA coach. Looks like they are holding accountability but in reality no impact. CLASSIC NCAA.

The argument for paying Ollie his money, btw, is that Ollie is very well regarded by our incredibly important basketball alums, and not coming to a reasonable agreement with Ollie will poison that relationship and cost us much more than some $$ in the long term.

Penalties in a nut shell:
  • Two years of probation.
  • A three-year show-cause order for the former head coach. During that period, any NCAA member school employing him must restrict him from any athletically related duties unless it shows cause why the restrictions should not apply.
  • A vacation of records in which men’s basketball student-athletes competed while ineligible. The university must provide a written report containing the contests impacted to the NCAA media coordination and statistics staff within 45 days of the public decision release.
  • A limit of 12 men’s basketball scholarships during the 2019-20 academic year, a reduction by one from the allowable 13 scholarships (self-imposed by the university).
  • Recruiting restrictions, including:
    • A one-week ban on men’s basketball unofficial visits during the 2018-19 academic year (self-imposed by the university) and a two-week ban during the 2019-20 academic year.
    • A one-week ban on recruiting communications in men’s basketball during the 2018-19 academic year (self-imposed by the university).
    • A reduction of four men’s basketball recruiting-person days during the 2018-19 (self-imposed by the university) and 2019-20 academic years.
    • A one-visit reduction from the permissible number of official visits in men’s basketball during the rolling 2018-19 and 2019-20 two-year period.
  • A $5,000 fine (self-imposed by the university).
