Has UConn tried approaching Pratt and Whitney (outside of naming rights to the stadium), Sikorsky, Electric Boat, the insurance companies and maybe the WWE for some corporate sponsors. If they can get some WWE, money that could really attract some kids to the programs.
Generally, large corporations are not going to make donations to collectives for NIL. If they are involved with NIL, it will be tailored towards individual athletes to promote their brands. Brands like Gatorade will have deals with athletes like Paige Bueckers.

Large corporations will have marketing relationships with the athletic department or the university.

P2 schools losing their players to other P2 schools because they get outbid 1.2 mil to 1 mil. And it all will trickle down. What a nightmare for any coach who wants to just manage players and X’s and O’s. Now they are expected to be GMs and money guys more than ever. I imagine a bunch of assistants will head to the pros for less money. That and football administration jobs will balloon.

Gotta imagine there is going to be a position that will be developed to handle this so a coach can identify a recruit, do the pitch when needed, and then leave the GM things to that person. That person would be below the AD. For all I know, this already exists.

Sure. Problem is that it is more bloat for a UConn program losing big money, and it still means the head coach is responsible for establishing dollar value efficiently - like a GM. GMs in the pros have that responsibility, have huge staffs and have more job security than most coaches. Alabama can hire 5 of these guys, but Saban will still be king for as long as he’s around. How will Mora establish value for NIL payment? That is all analytics when it comes down to it.
The days of scholarship-only football is going to look more and more appealing to some of these known control freaks. I don’t think Dabo is looking at what’s going on at Texas and feeling good about Clemson stock. With the money they are raising, they can buy half of Clemson’s team if they wanted. Teams that can set huge flat NIL dollar amounts from commercial sponsors then augment with whale donors are going to be in the CFP year-in, year-out. It is pro football and GMs will be named, paid and empowered. Just another point that separation is coming. BC and Cuse aren’t going to be swinging this.

Not to mention, given the huge money some of these guys are making plus a lack of academic aptitude/interest, will players push for a play-only option? The more things change, the worse it all sounds. It makes European soccer look fair and stable.

Mora has a GM - lost him to Stanford.

-> Jim Mora made the call to action, often and vociferously as the football season unraveled, and UConn’s shakers, movers and influencers have been delivering the NIL goods.

“Clearly it’s a need here and we’ve been pounding the streets for the program,” said Mike Burton, who is a board member and football lead for the Bleeding Blue for Good collective.

Burton, who with his family owns and operates Cenveo, a sprawling Stamford-based manufacturer of print-related products, and is the name on UConn’s football headquarters, joined Bleeding Blue for Good about six weeks ago and, with new executive director Jared Thomas, a West Point grad who came from Purdue, has been ramping up efforts to raise name-image-likeness resources for the football program to use in recruiting.

They have set a goal to raise $500,000 and Burton announced via social media this week they are 75 percent of the way there, and confident of exceeding it.

Concurrently, Marc D’Amelio and his Huskies NIL Collective raised nearly $27,000 from 195 donors over the weekend, and he matched it. And with his connections and strategy, he is bringing football players into the collective and teaching them “how to fish,” or, in this case, how to build their brand and find opportunities to monetize their name, image and likeness.

So the wheels are in motion for UConn football to be better positioned to compete for players, especially in the transfer portal, where the program was caught short last offseason. For people who have been asking how to get involved, D’Amelio’s website is dameliohuskies.com. Bleeding Blue for Good is at bleedingblueforgood.org. <-

UConn needs to hire the guy Jonah Hill played in Money Ball.

Just think, we could be the Oakland A's of college football!!!
