I have not followed this story, but glad to see him step down. Im pretty sure it's how I would play it. Not interested in the drama or being involved with how today's media covers "scandal". I'd take the millions and walk away. Even if I disputed the accusation.

Sure. It is the media's fault. Great response. He took the money because he knows he did what they are saying he did. The school probably could have played hard ball with him but they don't need any extra attention. If anything, Marshall took advantage of what the media would do by covering it to get the school to give him some cash to walk away.

Is there anybody with worse luck then AG. Hopefully they play for the new coach and he gets to a postseason of any kind. Hasn’t even played in a conference tournament.
Somehow I think he will turn this into a positive. Tough hombre.

If Rick Pitino is still coaching College Basketball then Marshall will coach in college again. There are probably AD's already kicking the tires. Take the Covid year off, hang out in Cancun or Cabo, and come back next year when nobody will remember why he was released. Heck he'll probably turn this into a huge pay raise.

It’s pretty wild that he “resigned.” I mean, the allegations are really serious. On top of getting a $7 mill payout, big yikes for everyone involved in that. My gut tells me the school didn’t want to fight him over the money, knowing the athletic department was fully aware of these allegations prior to this report. They probably don’t won’t more things to come to the surface. It’s really messed up.

Interesting read:
>>Marshall will be paid $7.5 million in the form of 156 equal payments of $48,076.92, which will be paid every two weeks for six years, starting Dec. 11, 2020. He will also receive $250,000 from Wichita State as consideration for him signing the release of ADEA claims.

Marshall has a limited liability company – Marshall Hoops, LLC – that was included in the terms of the confidential separation agreement and Marshall signed on behalf of the company, as well as for himself. In addition to Wichita State University, the Wichita State University Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Inc. (“ICAA”) was a signing party in both the separation agreement and the release of ADEA claims, with Wichita State Athletic Director Darron Boatright signing for the ICAA.<<

That's so much money when you put it like that.

I don’t think Polley makes an NBA team, but he does have end of bench qualities. Those 10-13 spot guys serve specific roles. Not necessarily the best guys but ones with 1 great skill

He can definitely be Steve Novak in the NBA. I don't think he will because there's so many guys who are growing up with the goal of being that type of specialist though

This is not the kind of thing people just forget so easily. People still remember Mike Rice Jr of Rutgers or Larry Eustachy of Iowa St paying co-eds to party with him. You don't have to be Knight or Pitino to be remembered for terrible behavior.

Yah, you might get a job but your rep is almost certainly tainted and even tarnished. In fact, some desperate low-major or even middling mid-major might make a move in a year or two.

I love your optimism but I disagree. Novak was a next level shooter, like first on your scouting report type shooter...didn't he drop 40 on us??
Tyler Phommachanh would need a huge jump this year to get there

Marshall even has his own company? I am sure he writes off all expenses as tax deductible business expenditures.

Steve Novak hit 46.1% of his 3-pointers in college, on 9 attempts per 40 minutes. Polley is at 39.3% on 5.8. Novak was magnitudes better as a shooter (which is why his scoring numbers were so much better than Polley's).

What suxs is no compensation for the players who suffered. He gets $7 million and the players and other victims get zilch.

I would hope that with his resignation the victims lawyer up, and get awarded a settlement. Colleges should have some liability for not protecting their students from staff. Its the physical abuse I'm referring to, because the verbal abuse is subjective and not uncommon in sports.

What would happen if he were a teacher (i.e. Coach) and this happened to his students (players) in his classes (basketball court)? I would have to believe the students would be compensated in some fashion.

Gregg Marshall’s abusive behavior predated Wichita State, former Winthrop players say

I wouldn't be so sure that WSU doesn't end up paying settlements to players

Per Goodman: "Perfect addition to help interim Isaac Brown...Wichita State just replaced Gregg Marshall, who physically and verbally abused players, with Billy Kennedy — a guy who is universally lauded in the industry and also by his former players for his treatment of people."

Alterique and Wichita State play a solid first matchup against Utah State Wednesday night at 9:30.
