Mitchell Northam - WUNC has UConn a spot below 4 loss unc

Great stuff. Do you think these guys voted this week before the UConn / Louisville game on Sunday? How could the writer from the Louisville paper who presumably covered the game still vote the Cardinals ahead of the Huskies after losing by 24? The bias against UConn among the voters is crazy. You get penalized for losses to ranked/top five teams on the road or neutral courts and no credit for beating ranked teams at home. The Huskies current SOS is # 1 by a significant margin and yet teams with weak schedules get credit for winning by 50 points against patsies. This will eventually shake itself out but still annoying in the meantime.

Wow, I really thought we'd be up to like #13ish because these were good wins! i know they were ranked below us, but we played so well!

I'll be curious about the bracketology. UCONN should easily be a 4 seed now, not quite sure we should be up to a 3 seed.

After we beat Marquette and Creighton (fingers crossed), I bet they both move into the top 10 (in the polls)...

Truth be told, I don't think a lot of these writers/voters really pay as much attention as many of the folks who frequent the better boards. That said, I think this will start sorting itself out as conference play begins...and some teams keep playing competitive out-of-conference games. (like UConn).

Personally, I think ND is better than 14th, but what are going to do?

I take some solace in Massey ratings (not polls), which has UConn 8th and ND 9th. Seems right at this moment.

Hate to see Charlies Brackets tomorrow, wonder who he will move into the 4 spot replacing UNLV. Will it be Marquette, Louisville or Virginia Tech?

Thanks @BRS24 . If these aren't examples of real UConn bias...SMH.

All this crazy town got me thinking - are there guidelines or criteria that voters are supposed to use? You could look at good/bad wins or losses to significantly move a team up or down, general comparison of wins vs other teams adjacent to your ranking, etc. On the ESPN page, it says "No poll released during this week" under the Coaches Poll, however It would be interesting to see how much disparity there might be between the two poll.

UConn's range was anywhere between #10 (Voepel/ESPN) and unranked. A decent number of voters had us b/w 11-15. I wonder if this is a case of writers with limited knowledge get to vote, rather than opening up the voting pool to those that really follow WBB in depth. Seriously, who ranks UConn below L'ville, unless you decide that overall record, ie, losses to date are more important than the score of the game between the two teams? SMDH.

Well kind of a big deal for Wasshington and TCU entering the poll, not an accustomed position for either. Can they stay ranked longer than UNLV and Miami did? 1 week for each of those.

I agree. They belong right next to UConn, either right below or right above, and for similar reasons -- one lopsided loss on opening day and a good win over Tennessee. I haven't heard a real prognosis for the return of Miles Citron and Prosper, but if they come back in January, I think that has to propel ND into the top 10, and they'll be the toughest out in the tournament.

Can someone explain the difference between Massey, NET, and the polls (I get that the polls are just voted on, so really just the others)? Thanks in advance!

Yes none of this surprises me. It is a good thing the young ladies are playing for the win and not for the polls. And starting to play as a team. Good luck tonight.
Go Huskies.

Mitchell Northam generally is well informed.. He really does know his WBB stuff. However he has long been misguided when it comes to Chapel Hill. Other than that. I respect his work.

Its so early in the year, doubt many of the voters are really paying attention yet. Likely a bit of a hangover effect based on the NC State, UCLA and Texas games. UConn losing was a major sports story many writers, no matter their thoughts on UConn, jumped on as click bait. Bet most voters have not seen UConn play this year and their main input is coming from these stories. If you are a UConn fan following each game, you can see material improvements that will only get better with more practice and experience. These polls have little or no effect on the playoff seeding so the lazy writers that rely on click bait versus creative analysis will have to get back to work again.
