9-5 Memphis reminds you of the John Wall 2009-10 Kentucky team that went 35-3 and to the Elite Eight, and the Anthony Davis 2011-12 Kentucky team that went 38-2 and won the national championship?

I mean the one year Anthony Davis played they were 38-2 and national champions and the one year John Wall played they were 35-3 and lost in the E8.

Memphis is a middling AAC team that happens to put together a good game every once in a while because they have 9 5-stars

Not seeing any similarities

If they make it to tourney, with the pro talent they have, they beat UConn facts

Umm. Kentucky wins, Memphis never makes the tournament.

Cool thread I guess but no. What because they just beat Cinci? The loss to Tulane is probably more indicative of who they are.

No. Kentucky was a good team with good players who people like to make out as worse than they really are. Memphis is a bad team with good players who hasn't even been able to make the NCAA tournament

Memphis is young and full of HS/Prep heroes who know they are rent-a-players and their college careers are over in 100 days.
They can be very good if they play as a team and get off to a fast start, if not it's all hero ball
The only comparative between Memphis and Kentucky is the talent but Calipari has the knack to get them to gel more times than not - Penney - not so much

We aren’t great but I would welcome a matchup against Memphis in the tourney.

When has the most “pro talented” team won the championship? That AD Kentucky one is the last one I can think of. We’re talking about merging the egos & talents of young adults. NBA talent doesn’t equal the best team

I’m 0-4 on my last four Memphis bets - which were my only four. Picked against them once, with them 3x. I’m an idiot for that. From now on, I’m gonna put one dollar on their money line.

I think the Penny Hardaway experiment shows that former NBA stardom may get you recruits, but without having major D1 head-coaching experience, the experiment usually fails. See also Ewing, Ollie, Howard, etc.

We are a WHOLE lot better than Memphis. We beat the number one team in the country to be. And for most of the game was clearly the better team

i hate-watched a good amount of that smu-memphis game. it was pretty dark. smu was playing a high school-sized lineup (6'5" center, 6'3" pf) and memphis could barely get the ball up the floor at times. the penny quotes are classic.
