Why let strangers define it?

But everyone will have to wait until Saturday to see if a place in the Huskies of Honor will be reserved for her.

"Obviously, Morgan is deserving of that," Stewart said. "But either way she belongs up there. She has done so much for this program. I would like it to change and I think that's something that's going through Coach's mind. Morgan's done a lot for this program and last year she got gypped, there's no other way to look at it. But no matter what the coaches decide, she should be up there."

I agree with Stewie, though "gypped" is a term best now avoided...[ edit]

And I go with Geno (what do players know anyway!)
"The criteria is the criteria," Auriemma said. "That's how they (Stewart and Jefferson) got on there. Nobody asked for them to get on the wall before they made it. The criteria is the criteria until I decide to change it. That's not happening anytime soon.

"I don't want it to change. Then, where do you draw the line? There wouldn't be any room on that wall. I can name you 50 guys that belong on that wall that didn't make All-American. Where do you draw the line? That's how I look at it."

I disagree. The requirements are there and have been there since the beginning. There are a number of uber talented Huskies, several of who went on to have terrific pro careers, who also did so much for the program, but who are not on the wall of honor.

Notably absent - Tamika Williams, Ashja Jones, Ann Strother, Barbara Turner, Tiffany Hayes, Kalana Greene, and Kelly Faris. All of those players did a "lot for the program" as well. The wall of honor has been reserved for players who make All American status. None of the aforementioned did, in spite of the fact that one of them is actually an Olympian.

If one of Morgan's goals is to be on the wall of honor, she can forego entering the pros and come back for her 5th season. It's VERY likely that not only would she be the #1 or 2 scorer on the team, but without Moriah and Stewie, would be a candidate for NPOY, not just an AA candidate.

I totally get that Stewie would advocate for Morgan - I'd be disappointed if she didn't. But I'm sure Sue and Dee would have advocated for Jones, Williams, Strother and Turner. I'm sure Tina and Maya would have spoken up for Hayes, Greene and Faris.

As UCMiami pointed out, the criteria are there because it's quantifiable and objective. If you change to make an exception for Morgan, or change the criteria all together, how do you do back and reward others who missed it the first time around?

a different criterion: winning 4 national championships....

But if Geno doesn't change this, I bet he finds another way to honor Morgan somewhere in the building.

Already happens and she will be so honored a minimum of three and hopefully four (or five ) times! National Championship banners, and NC team plaques.

I couldn't have said it any better. I completely agree w/your sentiments regardless of whether or not this team brings home the 4th championship.

I'd say the folks who jumped on your point "went off half-cocked" but, I'd probably be accused of some other violation of un-written PC rules.
I don't know how anyone - reading your entire post - could misinterpret your meaning.

I happen to be Jewish, too. My point is precisely yours. Read it carefully. All these terms-[ edit] are based on racial stereotypes.

I've reread what I wrote, and I don't know how I could possibly have been clearer that these are terms to be avoided. But if I didn't make it clear then, I hope I do now. But really, they are equally hurtful terms to the group hearing them.

Isn't Chris Dailey on the wall? Not an AA.

Personally, i would like to see an 'honorable mention' banner that lists names on one banner.

Good point. But my counter would be CD has no comparable person/competition for being on the wall Morgan as a player has lots of competition. For example are Morgan's contribution to UCONN as a player better than Jamelle Elliot?

To me Morgan will always be an AA. When you think of all she's accomplished with the pain, the operations, the rehabbing, and the lost time from the bum knee, her courage and her selfless leadership has played an integral part in what may be the greatest of all WCBB teams.

My interpretation was that Bags was pointing out pejorative terms, like "gypped." Don't be so harsh on him. He didn't say he condoned the use of those.

Mine as well. Couldn't be any clearer.

Easily. I was one of them and I apologize. There are certain words that emote enough emotion to dull our other wise perfectly good reading compression skills- this was one of them. Not the first time this has happened to me ,and I sure it will not be the last-for which I will apologize in advance.

Thank you also hoopsdiva and JimGunther. Although I was somewhat shocked by the misreading, in a larger sense it's a good thing that people react so strongly against what they perceive as prejudice. And thank you esp. CocoHusky for apologizing.

Maybe we can now get back to what's really important: UConn WCBB!

The the only thing that needs to be changed on the wall is for the announcer to stop saying the "sole criteria" for inclusion is being honored as a first team AA. For hraven's sake, must he get this wrong every Senior Day/Night? It's "sole criterion".

Now fix that. Everyone knows Morgan will get on the Wall anyway.

Agree!

I'm torn about this. I definitely think Morgan deserves to be up there, but you could make similar arguments for other players as well. Asjha Jones and Tamika Williams come to mind.

Yes, injustices have been done in the past too. Not an argument for perpetuating it, PLUS it's never too late to right an injustice. What a party that would be, huh?

New criterion' win FIVE national championships.
I'm not much for moving the goal posts, but I'm with you on this exception Ice... and not just because it made laugh.
