I was thinking keep clinkong in when Edey is in then take him out when they take Edey out, but just checked the box score and he played all 40 minutes against NC state. What do you guys think will be out strategy on this?

Push the pace. They play slow and Edey was able to play 40 mins cause him and Burns were walking up and down the court to get into their half court sets.

Rebound and fast break when possible.

Samson is gonna get bad l match up against Edey at some point. He and Clingan need to focus preventing Edey from getting position starting at the top of the paint.

He does not run the court well.
Need to create the mismatch on the break and in transition. Hurley will sub Donovan 8-10 minutes in like any other game, regardless of how well Edey is doing. When that happens Samson needs to beat Edey down the court, especially after defensive rebounds by our bigger guards. It needs to look like a 5 on 4 assault, like when Nelson "dunked" on Clingan when Tristan hit the floor.

Clingan should be able to do this too. I'm not saying alter our offensive game plan, but enough of those will either 1) give us a lead with breathing room or 2) put Edey on the bench to catch his breath. With Edey out, even Samson will look like Adama out there.

IMO Clingan doesn't even need to win the individual battle against Edey (Edey's gonna get his points and will have the refs in his back pocket) - DC just needs to avoid drawing fouls and stay in the game long enough to neutralize Edey's presence, box him out, get some rebounds and create enough floor space for the rest of the team to get to the rim or hit mid-range shots.

And of course, speed up the tempo so Edey has to run the floor. Edey is better in the paint in half court, but Clingan can run the floor better than Edey.

We win as a team. No matter who the opponent, this team beats them by wearing them down. We stick to that and we win.

Clingan should be available for 40 minutes there’s no next game to think about. Edey is slow but he is well conditioned he paces himself well, Clingan would have to do the same. Now 40 minutes wouldn’t be ideal for Clingan more like 32 minutes.

If our bigs run, he'll need to keep up.

Purdue fans always say he never slows down and is always in shape. Which is kind of true. He doesn't huff and puff, or bend and hold his knees. He is in good shape. He is pretty methodically even offensively too. However, defensively he seems a step slower than normal (which is already slow) as the game progresses.

Clingan won't be effective for 40 straight minutes. The same logic as someone posted about Edey being conditioned to pace himself for 40 minutes, Clingan is most certainly not. Need to force Edey out of his rhythm, and we do that by doing what we've done for two years straight--two headed attack at the 5.

30 minutes to maximize his performance. And have Johnson run wind sprints up amd down the court. Punish Edey for not being quick or fast.

Run him around for 15–20 seconds per possession. Have the bigs running up and down the court. Just take him out of his normal play 3-5 possession

Nail the mid range game, open up passing lanes

If no foul trouble, we can win this game by double digits

I'm not sure about Purdue's depth, but we are a running pressuring team. If we can do better from 3 point land, than last night, we may be able to wear down Purdue. Edey is going to get his point, regardless. What we must do is make sure that the other 4 don't help him out. It kind of reminds of the 1988 final 4 Kansas-Oklahoma, where Danny Manning carried Kansas over a much better Oklahoma team literally by himself. Pressure defense, and running ability may wear them down. If DC can just play his game, and the other 4 do what they normally do, it may end up with another NC.

Edy will play 50 minutes in his last collegiate game with a title on the line, if he has to. Its apparent that he won't get tired. Quite impressive, his conservation of energy.

Just saying 'tiring him out' strategy won't work (as a primary).

Right. If Clingan gets tired, he becomes foul-prone.

32 minutes should be fine. Allows us to keep running Edey up and down the court.

I'd play it like a hockey team does just getting in his way whenever possible during transitions. It's something anyone on the court can do whenever it doesn't interfere with defensive assignments. Make him think he's running an obstacle course. Even if it doesn't tire him physically it can have an effect and maybe draw a foul or two.

Dare I say copy Michigan State's blueprint in 2009 that they used against UConn and Thabeet. It was to run and speed up the tempo to tire out Thabeet. I would also add use Clingan or Johnson, whoever Edey is guarding in pick and rolls or dribble hand offs and shoot because Edey will be standing in the middle of the paint and won't come out to defend them. Remember, it's Edey's last college game. He will push through playing 40 minutes if he has to.

Take all our time-outs in the first half to keep Donavan fresh. Play DC outside as we normally do to free up the middle for drives. Pick and rolls will rule the day for us. DC and Johnson are much too quick for Edey.

If Edey somehow gets in foul trouble, we will win by at least 20. Their entire offense revolves around him, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
We should just PNR him to death. We have the ball handlers and shooters. Clingan and Samson get up high enough to safely lob it to them over Edey. His ability to defend that is what his NBA future hinges on, and it’s why people are most skeptical of him
